: How Do You Pronounce The Name "YASHA" From An English Perspective? Doe It Have The the same sound as "YahShua"?
*************************
Milt Eliyah, good question, but first let me apologize for answering this post to my wife Hannah., In our ministry together we attempt to reply in kind when the Spirit moves us to do so. I hope you understand. However, she may want to post something in this regard later.
I could give you the simple answer, that is, I pronounce the English equivalent of the Hebrew characters just as they read, "YASHA", however I do not believe that the simplicity of your question was intended to incite a simple reply, therefore let me first say that the Masoretic Vowel Marks were added to aid non Hebraic people in the pronunciation of Hebrew because, as you know the written language did not have vowels. Remembering also that these vowel marks were not added by Hebrews but rather by the Masoretes in the fourth century C.E. Who were these Masoretes?
I only point this out to show that we cannot rely on the vowel marks alone, we must apply logic and reasoning to our conclusions, as I am sure you do.
So in light of that fact, let me say that the name we refer to as the Savior, Yasha, is Strong’s # 3467 and according to the vowel marks indicated by Strong’s is pronounced " yaw shah", (the "h" at the end of the word is quiescent or silent). If you were to disregard the vowel marks it would be pronounced just as the English equivalent suggests. The point here is that the Hebrew characters in #3467 are not the same as those in #3442-3443-3444 or 3091 and do not suggest any pronunciation similar to it, additional vowel marks would have to be added to #3467 in order to change the pronunciation to Yahshua, as was done in # 3091 to make Yahosha sound like Yahoshua.
If you believe that His Name is (Yasha) #3467 only you think that it should be pronounced "Yahshua", then I owe you an apology because, our disagreement would not be with the origin but with the pronunciation only, and over this issue I would lose no respect for your exegeses
Excuse me but I am not implying that we are in disagreement, as far as I know we have never diologued and I do not know your position in this matter. I am presenting it in this way for the benefit of those whom I know would hold this position.
One last comment should the above not be the case. The Name Yasha #3467 conveys the meaning of Sav(ior) and Deliverer i.e. the Person. The word Yeshuah #3444 conveys the meaning of salvation and deliverance i.e. the Action. If there is another source for the use of the name Yahshua please let me know.
I do appreciate your input as I respect the Spirit in which you reply.
In Yah’s Service,
Aharon
