EliYah's message:

We are going to go deep into the Word of Yahweh and examine a particular element in our world today that was not part of the original six days of creation.

You know there are certain plants or at least possibly features on plants that were never present during the garden of Eden or anywhere on the earth.

Thorns were not part of the original creation.

Ever heard the phrase "Every rose has it’s thorn"? That doesn’t appear to be true originally. It wasn’t until Adam sinned that Yahweh cursed the ground with thorns.

Now the story does not end there because as we dig deep into the Scriptures, we find a very intriguing message. It is a message of warning, a message of thorns.

We are going to go from Genesis to Revelations and see how the thorns are weaved into a very neat picture that Yahweh has for us. Because in the beginning, He created man from the dust of the earth.

Genesis 2:7 - And YAHWEH Elohim formed man [of] the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.

Yahweh Elohim planted a garden eastward in Eden. The word ‘Eden’ means paradise; and there He put the man that He had formed. Now it is evident even scientifically that in order for us to literally survive we have to partake of dirt.

We have to partake of the nutrients of the soil. It’s from the ground that we get the nutrients that we need. Just as we were

born with a choice, the ground from which Adam was made also yielded for Adam a choice of life or death. As we all know, Adam and Eve chose to disobey Yahweh by eating fruits from the forbidden tree.

Genesis 2:15 - Then YAHWEH Elohim took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it.

When Adam chose to partake of this forbidden fruit, the ground from which he was made became cursed and with this curse it has something coming from the ground that we all have negative experience with-thorns.

Genesis 3:17 - Then to Adam He said, "Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, `You shall not eat of it': "Cursed [is] the ground for your sake; In toil you shall eat [of] it All the days of your life.

Thorns and thistles will come up as Adam is trying to eat from the ground. Thorns were not a part of the original creation. Yahweh who

planted Adam in the garden was desirous that good food would come from Adam but what he found is that Adam yielded ugly fruit; the ugly fruit of sin. So, conversely, Yahweh added thorns and thistles to creation which starts off as a weed and ultimately prevents our plantings from bearing good fruit. So here in Genesis, Yahweh introduced thorns to make the ground harder to yield fruit.

Now remember we are made from the dust of the earth. Before, it was easy for Adam to tend to the garden. He could cause it to bear good fruit, no thorns would come up but now it would be more difficult. Just as it was easy before for Adam to walk in righteousness, now because of the sin, the thorns in Adam’s flesh, walking in righteousness would prove to be more difficult.

Now this is the nature of sin; is it not? The more we commit sin, the more we get tangled into, the harder it can be to get out and to be saved. Yahweh drove Adam and Eve from the garden and place cherubim to guard the way, the tree of life

Genesis 2:22 - Then the rib which YAHWEH Elohim had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man.

Genesis 2:23 - And Adam said: "This [is] now bone of my bones And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man."

Genesis 2:24 - Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

Since the time man was removed from the presence of Yahweh, man has sought to find his way back home but sin has separated man from his Elohim. Now fast forward to Abraham’s day.

Yahweh was desirous to save man from his sinful condition and He started with Abraham’s family. Through Abraham was promised a SEED(Messiah) because he was faithful and obedient and was willing to give Yahweh everything he had including his own son

Genesis 22:2 - Then He said, "Take now your son, your only [son] Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

Genesis 22:3 - So Abraham rose early in the morning and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son; and he split the wood for the burnt offering, and arose and went to the place of which Elohim had told him.

Genesis 22:9 - Then they came to the place of which Elohim had told him. And Abraham built an altar there and placed the wood in order; and he bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar, upon the wood.

Genesis 22:10 - And Abraham stretched out his hand and took the knife to slay his son.

Genesis 22:11 - But the Angel of YAHWEH called to him from heaven and said, "Abraham, Abraham!" So he said, "Here I am."

Genesis 22:12 - And He said, "Do not lay your hand on the lad, or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear Elohim, since you have not withheld your son, your only [son], from Me."

Genesis 22:13 - Then Abraham lifted his eyes and looked, and there behind [him was] a ram caught in a thicket by its horns. So Abraham went and took the ram, and offered it up for a burnt offering instead of his son.

Abraham was faithful with all of his household and Yahweh made him a promise in

Genesis 22:14 - And Abraham called the name of the place, The-YAHWEH-Will-Provide; as it is said [to] this day, "In the Mount of YAHWEH it shall be provided."

Genesis 22:15 - Then the Angel of YAHWEH called to Abraham a second time out of heaven,

Genesis 22:16 - and said: "By Myself I have sworn, says YAHWEH, because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only [son] --

Genesis 22:16 - and said: "By Myself I have sworn, says YAHWEH, because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only [son] --

Genesis 22:17 - "blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which [is] on the seashore; and your descendants shall possess the gate of their enemies.

Genesis 22:18 - "In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice."

And that SEED that we share in our Galatians study is Messiah. All the nations of the earth were blessed through the Messiah Yahushua. Because Abraham offered his only son, Yahweh looked upon that and will offer my Son. When

Abraham put Isaac on the alter he basically said You can have my children. One of those children from the seed of Abraham is the Messiah, Yahushua.

The next appearance of thorns in Exodus, chapter 3

Exodus 3:1 - Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian. And he led the flock to the back of the desert, and came to Horeb, the mountain of Elohim.

Exodus 3:2 - And the Angel of YAHWEH appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush. So he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, but the bush [was] not consumed.

Exodus 3:3 - Then Moses said, "I will now turn aside and see this great sight, why the bush does not burn."

If you look into the Hebrew here, you will find that this bush was a thorn bush. Normally thorn bushes burn very quickly by fire but in this case it wasn’t. That made it all the more curious; how is it that the thorn bush dwells in fire and was not consumed?

The analogy here is fitting: Yahweh came to Moshe, He was announcing deliverance of the children of Israel from bondage from sin. So how was it that man in his sinful and thorny condition would be able to dwell with Yahweh, a consuming fire and yet be delivered? Yahweh appeared to Abraham in a fiery thorn bush and it was not consumed.

Man has yielded nothing but thorns, thorns of sin in the same way the ground yields the thorns as a curse. So when Moshe appears unto Abraham in a fiery thorn bush, and it is not consumed, that is a message of deliverance.

Even though man was in a sinful state, he would dwell with the Consuming Fire. Yahweh, when bringing the children of Israel to the promise land, stopped at a place called Mt. Sinai. The word ‘Sinai’ means thorny. Yahweh would appear to the children of Israel as a consuming fire to deliver to them a fiery law

Exodus 24:17 - The sight of the glory of YAHWEH [was] like a consuming fire on the top of the mountain in the eyes of the children of Israel.

Yahweh came from Sinai and dawned on them from Seir shown forth from Mt Peron with 10,000 of His saints and from His right hand came a fiery law for them.

Deuteronomy 33:2 - And he said: "YAHWEH came from Sinai, And dawned on them from Seir; He shone forth from Mount Paran, And He came with ten thousands of saints; From His right hand [Came] a fiery law for them.

Yahweh gave them a fiery law upon a place of thorns. Israel was afraid that they would be consumed in the process and asked that the law be given through a mediator, Moshe, fearing that they in their thorny state would perish

Exodus 20:18 - Now all the people witnessed the thunderings, the lightning flashes, the sound of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking; and when the people saw it, they trembled and stood afar off.

In the wilderness, Yahweh commanded them to make a tabernacle and an ark out of acacia wood and to overlay with gold. The acacia tree is covered with very large thorns. Yahweh was going to make an ark out of this cursed wood and that ark would be a place of His dwelling.

Exodus 25:10 - "And they shall make an ark of acacia wood; two and a half cubits [shall be] its length, a cubit and a half its width, and a cubit and a half its height.

Exodus 25:11 - "And you shall overlay it with pure gold, inside and out you shall overlay it, and shall make on it a molding of gold all around.

Our Elohim who is a consuming fire, instructed that the ark of the covenant be made of acacia wood yet adorned with gold, with glory. And there He commanded the cherubim be placed on the ark.

The cherubim with its fiery sword is what kept Adam from the garden of Eden. Upon the sight of the ark was the Torah; the fiery sword. Yahweh with the fiery sword still dwells, as the earthly ark is a picture of the heavenly ark, behind the covering cherubim.

We can see that there is hope, there is someway, some access to the Father through a high priest into that holy place to restore man back to the place of Eden once again and not be held back by the fiery sword which condemns us; not be prevented from seeing Elohim because of the covering cherubim and being restored back to fellowship with Him again.

There was hope that Yahweh made this ark out of thorned wood. Yahweh would find a way through the Seed of Abraham to bring back man into fellowship with him again and even make man, formerly nothing but a tree of thorns, a special dwelling place for His spirit and be crowned with glory. We are that dwelling place.

How fitting how He would choose the acacia tree; a tree of thorns of which we have been made of and turning it into something beautiful by overlaying it with gold….that’s another example.

The last place that Israel would encamp prior to their time crossing the Jordan was a place called an acacia grove

Joshua 3:1 - Then Joshua rose early in the morning; and they set out from Acacia Grove and came to the Jordan, he and all the children of Israel, and lodged there before they crossed over.

Moshe, the law giver, was not permitted to take them across the Jordan into the promise land because he had also sinned. It would take a man named Joshua. Joshua in the Hebrew is Yahoshua; the same name as Yahushua the Messiah.

Yahushua the high priest would take all of us and will take all of us from this thorny world we live in…this place of thorns across the Jordan and into the land of promise. It was Yahushua that took us, not Moshe, because the law cannot save us but Yahushua can take us across the Jordan. Moshe was guilty of sin and in need of Yahushua.

Yahushua is the one that saves us from the curses. Yahweh warned the children of Israel that once they entered the promise land, it would be a cleansing process. These men would become the fire of Yahweh destroying and burning up all the thorns of the land.

He told them to completely destroy them and to not leave anything because He did not want the plants in that land (the people that were thorns) that were not bearing good fruit to destroy Israel and to prevent Israel from bearing good fruit. So Yahweh told them to completely destroy them, to obliterate them; but Israel would not.

Yahweh warned them in:

Numbers 33:55 - `But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you, then it shall be that those whom you let remain [shall be] irritants in your eyes and thorns in your sides, and they shall harass you in the land where you dwell.

Joshua 23:12 - "Or else, if indeed you do go back, and cling to the remnant of these nations -- these that remain among you -- and make marriages with them, and go in to them and they to you,

Yahweh warned them to get rid of the thorns or they would be thorns in your eyes and thorns in your sides and they will not be destroyed from among you and they will destroy you. The day of Yahweh is a day of burning. Yahweh was putting the children of Israel in to this promise land and causing them to be like the ‘Day of Yahweh’ to the heathen that were living there.

He was calling them to go in and destroy with the sword, the power/word of Yahweh, destroying the people who were dwelling there; cutting down the thorn bushes o f the land. Since they didn’t cut down the thorn bushes of the land, Israel became like them

2Samuel 23:6 - But [the sons] of rebellion [shall] all [be] as thorns thrust away, Because they cannot be taken with hands.

2Samuel 23:7 - But the man [who] touches them Must be armed with iron and the shaft of a spear, And they shall be utterly burned with fire in [their] place."

Yahweh wanted them to be that spear, that sword to cut down the thorns of the land but they chose not to.

Now we have our own picture here because we need to guard ourselves against the thorns of the land:

Proverbs 22:5 - Thorns [and] snares [are] in the way of the perverse; He who guards his soul will be far from them.

The heathen, when they are practicing there sin and their drinking parties, they appear to be having a good time with their life of thorns.

But be forewarned, especially you young people, they look like they are having a good time in their laughter but Scripture says ‘wickedness burns as a fire, it shall devour the briars and thorns and kindle in the thickets of the forest and they shall melt up like rising smoke and through the wrath of Yahweh of host the land is burned up and the people shall be as fuel to the fire.

We see a repeated thing here. The people of the land bearing briars and thorns (the quickest thing that will burn) will be destroyed. When you hear the laughter of the heathen when they enjoy their sin, think of it like this

Ecclesiastes 7:5 - [It is] better to hear the rebuke of the wise Than for a man to hear the song of fools.

In their laughter, they will find sorrow in the end and their joy will become their burning. Therefore we need to avoid them and not be ensnared by them. Have you ever heard ‘when thorns burn they make a crackling sound’?

So when you see the heathen doing what they do, don’t even think of it as laughter, think of it as the crackling of thorns under a pot. It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise. We need to turn away from the life of thorns so we might seek to dwell with Yahweh, A Consuming Fire. The day is coming, burning like an oven, when all who do wickedness will be burned up

Isaiah 33:10 - "Now I will rise," says YAHWEH; "Now I will be exalted, Now I will lift Myself up.

The sinners in Zion are afraid. Fearfulness has seized the hypocrites. Who among us shall dwell with the Devouring Fire; with Everlasting Burnings? How can we dwell with Yahweh, the Everlasting Fire?

Scripture says ‘he who walks righteously and speaks uprightly, he who despises the gain of oppressions, who gestures with his hands refusing bribes, who stops his ears from hearing of bloodshed and shuts his eyes from seeing evil.

Don’t even look at their thorny lifestyle. You don’t need to read that new story. You don’t need to watch that T.V. program. You don’t need to see that movie.

If you want to dwell with the Devouring Fire, stop your ears from those things and shut your eyes from those things because they will be thorns in your sides and will grow like thorns around you choking out the Word of Yahweh causing you not to be able to bear good fruit.

If we forsake our own ways and forsake our unrighteous thoughts, we will dwell with Yahweh. He will dwell on high, the one who turns his eyes and ears away from these things. His place of defense will be a fortress of rocks. Bread will be given to him and his water will be sure.

Your eyes will see the King and His beauty, the Messiah and will see the land that is very far off. We need to forsake our own ways and unrighteous thoughts by turning to Yahweh so we will be pardoned. His Word will accomplish what it ought to accomplish in us and we no longer bear thorns

Isaiah 55:7 - Let the wicked forsake his way, And the unrighteous man his thoughts; Let him return to YAHWEH, And He will have mercy on him; And to our Elohim, For He will abundantly pardon.

Isaiah 55:8 - "For My thoughts [are] not your thoughts, Nor [are] your ways My ways," says YAHWEH.

Isaiah 55:9 - "For [as] the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.

Isaiah 55:10 - "For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, And do not return there, But water the earth, And make it bring forth and bud, That it may give seed to the sower And bread to the eater,

Isaiah 55:11 - So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper [in the thing] for which I sent it.

Isaiah 55:12 - "For you shall go out with joy, And be led out with peace; The mountains and the hills Shall break forth into singing before you, And all the trees of the field shall clap [their] hands.

Isaiah 55:13 - Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress tree, And instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree; And it shall be to YAHWEH for a name, For an everlasting sign [that] shall not be cut off."

We need to be bearers like the myrtle tree, bearing good fruit.

Yahweh had planted Israel into the land and desired for them just like Adam, that they would bear good fruit and not the fruit of thorns.

Isaiah 5:1 - Now let me sing to my Well-beloved A song of my Beloved regarding His vineyard: My Well-beloved has a vineyard On a very fruitful hill.

Isaiah 5:2 - He dug it up and cleared out its stones, And planted it with the choicest vine. He built a tower in its midst, And also made a winepress in it; So He expected [it] to bring forth [good] grapes, But it brought forth wild grapes.

Isaiah 5:3 - "And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah, Judge, please, between Me and My vineyard.

Isaiah 5:4 - What more could have been done to My vineyard That I have not done in it? Why then, when I expected [it] to bring forth [good] grapes, Did it bring forth wild grapes?

Isaiah 5:5 - And now, please let Me tell you what I will do to My vineyard: I will take away its hedge, and it shall be burned; [And] break down its wall, and it shall be trampled down.

Isaiah 5:6 - I will lay it waste; It shall not be pruned or dug, But there shall come up briers and thorns. I will also command the clouds That they rain no rain on it."

Isaiah 5:7 - For the vineyard of YAHWEH of hosts [is] the house of Israel, And the men of Judah are His pleasant plant. He looked for justice, but behold, oppression; For righteousness, but behold, a cry [for help].

The process of falling of way is seen in this. First we begin to bear wild grapes, then eventually to keep choosing the wrong ways, Yahweh stops pruning His vineyard because it not bearing fruit.

It is only when we bear fruit that we can bear more fruit. So He stops the pruning, He stops digging around it, He ceases for caring for His vineyard because it is just bearing wild grapes. Thorns and briars begin to start coming up; sin starts overcoming the whole place. When Yahweh sent the children of Israel into exile, what was it that happened to the land?

Naturally when the land has a clearing in it and is uninhabited, what will freely grow there is thorns

Isaiah 32:13 - On the land of my people will come up thorns [and] briers, Yes, on all the happy homes [in] the joyous city;

Isaiah 32:14 - Because the palaces will be forsaken, The bustling city will be deserted. The forts and towers will become lairs forever, A joy of wild donkeys, a pasture of flocks --

When we are not focused on the things of the Kingdom, setting our affections on things above rather than things on the earth, pretty soon what is going to start coming up in our soil are thorns and briars which become snares to our souls.

Today we live in exile because we are part of the exile. Yahweh removed the children of exile from the land. Because we are now children of those people, we are children of the exile. We are surrounded by a place of thorns just as the children of Israel were surrounded by people who were thorns in their sides. Very few are seeking the way of eternal life.

Yahushua said:

Matthew 7:13 - "Enter by the narrow gate; for wide [is] the gate and broad [is] the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.

Matthew 7:14 - "Because narrow [is] the gate and difficult [is] the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

People take comfort in majorities; we are like sheep. If all the other sheep are doing it then it must be OK. That is the mentality we have. A lot of people ask me today, “If you are really right about these things , how can there be so many people that have been deceived over so many centuries?

No one realizes what Yahushua says and realize how is it how none of those people were not deceived? Few find it and if few find it, don’t be looking for a crowd. Don’t be looking for a large mega-church because narrow is the gate, difficult is the way that leads to life, and few will find it.

Now there are false prophets among us seeking to entice men to bear the kind of fruit they are bearing thorns. He says you will know them by their fruits

Matthew 7:15 - "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.

Matthew 7:16 - "You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles?

The false prophets are bearing thorns. Thorns and thistles are the things that were part of the curse from the beginning in the book of Genesis.

Matthew 7:17 - "Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.

Matthew 7:18 - "A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor [can] a bad tree bear good fruit.

Matthew 7:19 - "Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

Matthew 7:20 - "Therefore by their fruits you will know them.

What are the good fruits and the bad fruits? That is revealed by the next several verses, by the ones who have gone down the broad way of destructions

Matthew 7:21 - "Not everyone who says to Me, `Master, Master,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.

Matthew 7:22 - "Many will say to Me in that day, `Master, Master, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?'

Matthew 7:23 - "And then I will declare to them, `I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'

The ones who are practicing lawlessness are the ones who are bearing thorn bushes and thistles. The same way Adam was commanded not to eat from the forbidden tree and he ate it anyway. So thorn bushes and thistles came up from the land. The same way when we disobey the will of our Father, we will bear thorn bushes and thistles.

This word translated ‘lawlessness’ is from the word anomia and is word 458 in the Strongs Lexicon - contempt and violation from the law, iniquity and wickedness. The Stongs Lexicon has it as ‘illegality by violation from the law’.

Yahweh will say to many of them who claim to be believers of the Messiah, and yet live a life in violation of the law, depart from me, you are bearers of thorn bushes and thistles. I want know part with you and I don‘t even know you. That is what will happen to the wicked, like the prophets who they followed, they are bearing thorns

Isaiah 9:18 - For wickedness burns as the fire; It shall devour the briers and thorns, And kindle in the thickets of the forest; They shall mount up [like] rising smoke.

Isaiah 9:19 - Through the wrath of YAHWEH of hosts The land is burned up, And the people shall be as fuel for the fire; No man shall spare his brother.

We need to heed Word of Yahweh, the Torah, the fiery Law of Yahweh, and let the seed of His Word prevail in our hearts rather than deceive of thorns.

Matthew 13:3 - Then He spoke many things to them in parables, saying: "Behold, a sower went out to sow.

Matthew 13:4 - "And as he sowed, some [seed] fell by the wayside; and the birds came and devoured them.

Matthew 13:5 - "Some fell on stony places, where they did not have much earth; and they immediately sprang up because they had no depth of earth.

Matthew 13:6 - "But when the sun was up they were scorched, and because they had no root they withered away.

Matthew 13:7 - "And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up and choked them.

Matthew 13:8 - "But others fell on good ground and yielded a crop: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.

Matthew 13:9 - "He who has ears to hear, let him hear!"

Matthew 13:10 - And the disciples came and said to Him, "Why do You speak to them in parables?"

Matthew 13:11 - He answered and said to them, "Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given.

Matthew 13:12 - "For whoever has, to him more will be given, and he will have abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.

Matthew 13:13 - "Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.

Matthew 13:14 - "And in them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, which says: `Hearing you will hear and shall not understand, And seeing you will see and not perceive;

Matthew 13:15 - For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, And their eyes they have closed, Lest they should see with [their] eyes and hear with [their] ears, Lest they should understand with [their] hearts and turn, So that I should heal them.'

Matthew 13:16 - "But blessed [are] your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear;

Matthew 13:17 - "for assuredly, I say to you that many prophets and righteous [men] desired to see what you see, and did not see [it], and to hear what you hear, and did not hear [it].

Matthew 13:18 - "Therefore hear the parable of the sower:

Matthew 13:19 - "When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand [it], then the wicked [one] comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the wayside.

I found this to be true when I garden. You don’t have to plant weeds. They just show up. We have to be continually diligent about getting rid of the undesirables or they will overgrow and will shade out the healthy plant from the light of the sun. Have you ever found yourself in a briar patch?

It is one of the most frustrating things because one false move and you feel pain. Imagine yourself as a plant trying to grown and bear fruit through the pierces of thorns which essentially come from weeds. The only way to rid yourself from the thorns is to take something sharp and cut them out which will take laboring for spiritual things.

We cannot be lazy about the weeds and thorns; we have to labor in the spiritual things by taking the sword of the Word of Yahweh and cut those things out and have nothing to do with them.

If we are not willing to labor and take care of our spiritual garden and cut down the weeds and thorns that we are already surrounded by my brothers and sisters, what will happen in our laziness is becoming surrounded by a hedge of thorns.

Mark 4:19 - "and the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

Luke 8:14 - "Now the ones [that] fell among thorns are those who, when they have heard, go out and are choked with cares, riches, and pleasures of life, and bring no fruit to maturity.

We have the cares of the world which are things that choke out the Word. We have the deceitfulness of riches, desires for other things, and the pleasures of life which are all things that will keep us from bearing fruit.

Proverbs 15:19 - The way of the lazy [man is] like a hedge of thorns, But the way of the upright [is] a highway.

Proverbs 24:30 - I went by the field of the lazy [man], And by the vineyard of the man devoid of understanding;

Proverbs 24:31 - And there it was, all overgrown with thorns; Its surface was covered with nettles; Its stone wall was broken down.

These thorns will suck up the nutrients out of our soil then grow over top of any good planting Yahweh has put in our heart and shades our good plant from much needed sun light. You might catch a glimpse hear and there of sunlight but we need the light, the Word, we need the water, the grace of the Messiah giving us His holy spirit, we need the torah and the Messiah.

The connection is the Word being the light and the rain being the Spirit. Those are the two ministries that will keep us growing. We can’t just have a bunch of water and not any Word. There isn’t any planting there. We got to have the Word for us to bear fruit and the water, the Spirit of Elohim to grow. Only having the Torah and not having the Messiah, we cannot grow.

Watch out for the foreign plant that grows up that entangles and entwines blocking out light and sucks up all the water. That foreign plant might start out as one and may seem beautiful. It will crowd around you growing very quickly and when you try to remove it, it pokes you causing you to not be able to touch it so you need something sharp to cut it down.

Have you ever notice that the Word of Yahweh only cuts you if you become like the thorns? It is the thorns being cut away when His Word cuts to the heart. Don’t be angry when it does because it needs to be cut out.

Acts 7:54 - When they heard these things they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed at him with [their] teeth.

Instead be like the men in Acts chapter 2 who humble themselves wanting to be away from the thorns

Acts 2:37 - Now when they heard [this], they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Men [and] brethren, what shall we do?"

Acts 2:38 - Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Yahushua Messiah for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Acts 2:39 - "For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as YAHWEH our Elohim will call."

Acts 2:40 - And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, "Be saved from this perverse generation."

Brothers, if we are already spiritual and not carnal, the Word will not cut. The Word will become something to rejoice over. The more spiritual we are, the more like the Word we are, the more like the Messiah we are because the law is spiritual then the less the Word will have to do cutting in us; cutting away the wickedness in our hearts.

The deeper in the thorny thicket the harder it is to value what Yahweh values. Your eyes will become used to the darkness. Lets avoid this sewing among thorns.

Jeremiah 4:3 - For thus says YAHWEH to the men of Judah and Jerusalem: "Break up your fallow ground, And do not sow among thorns.

Jeremiah 4:4 - Circumcise yourselves to YAHWEH, And take away the foreskins of your hearts, You men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem, Lest My fury come forth like fire, And burn so that no one can quench [it], Because of the evil of your doings."

Hosea 10:12 - Sow for yourselves righteousness; Reap in mercy; Break up your fallow ground, For [it is] time to seek YAHWEH, Till He comes and rains righteousness on you.

If we are delivered from the thorns of this world, we will not be consumed on that final day. We will dwell with the Everlasting Fire, the same fire that destroys the wicked will not destroy us. How is it that we can be delivered from the thorns we have allowed in our lives.

We struggle with the temptations of this world every single day of our lives

Romans 7:14 - For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin.

Romans 7:15 - For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do.

Romans 7:16 - If, then, I do what I will not to do, I agree with the law that [it is] good.

The torah is the fiery sword that guarded man from the place of paradise in the presence of Yahweh.

But we have Yahushua HaMashiach my brothers, the promised SEED of Abraham. Abraham was asked to offer his son, Isaac, on the altar. Abraham demonstrated that he was truly willing to give his son to Yahweh. Yahweh stopped him and a ram was provided instead; one that was caught in his horns in a thicket of thorns and briars.

Abraham called that place ‘Yahweh provides’ because Yahweh had provided an offering. After that, Abraham was promised that through his seed, the Messiah, all nations would be blessed. Just as the prophets predicted the Messiah would come and Yahweh could lay upon him the iniquity of us all

Isaiah 53:1 - Who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of YAHWEH been revealed?

Isaiah 53:2 - For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, And as a root out of dry ground. He has no form or comeliness; And when we see Him, [There is] no beauty that we should desire Him.

Isaiah 53:3 - He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, [our] faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.

Isaiah 53:4 - Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by Elohim, and afflicted.

Isaiah 53:5 - But He [was] wounded for our transgressions, [He was] bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace [was] upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.

Isaiah 53:6 - All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And YAHWEH has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.

Isaiah 53:7 - He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, And as a sheep before its shearers is silent, So He opened not His mouth.

How fitting then that during this sacrifice for all mankind, Yahushua would be crowned with thorns.

Matthew 27:27 - Then the soldiers of the governor took Yahushua into the Praetorium and gathered the whole garrison around Him.

Matthew 27:28 - And they stripped Him and put a scarlet robe on Him.

Matthew 27:29 - When they had twisted a crown of thorns, they put [it] on His head, and a reed in His right hand. And they bowed the knee before Him and mocked Him, saying, "Hail, King of the Jews!"

Yahushua, who bore the curse of the law from Sinai the thorny mountain, became the curse for us, being crowned with a crown we earned but Yahweh placed it upon Him. Yahweh appeared in the burning bush of thorns.

Yahushua appeared to us with thorns just as the ram Yahweh provided to Abraham with its head wounded in the thicket of thorns. The giving of the Torah and the giving of the Messiah were both revealed among thorns. The torah at Mt Sinai the thorny mountain and the Messiah with His crown made of thorns is quite fitting.

The men that gave Him the crown of thorns were thorn bearing men. Yahweh laid our iniquities and thorns on Him and through that made Messiah King. We with our sins actually caused the need for a Savior to forgive us of our sins so we, like a burning bush, would not be consumed.

As the Torah dwells in our hearts, a place of thorns, would not be consumed, just as the tabernacle in the wilderness would actually become the dwelling place of Yahweh

John 14:23 - Yahushua answered and said to him, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.

1Corinthians 3:16 - Do you not know that you are the temple of Elohim and [that] the Spirit of Elohim dwells in you?

Ephesians 2:19 - Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of Elohim,

Ephesians 2:20 - having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Yahushua Messiah Himself being the chief [cornerstone],

Ephesians 2:21 - in whom the whole building, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in Yahweh,

Ephesians 2:22 - in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of Elohim in the Spirit.

Is there any wonder why Yahweh had the heart of Elohim, a place of His dwelling made of acacia would and yet crowned with glory?

How could the Scriptures not be inspired from cover to cover? This is such a deep consistent message across every single one of them books: 40 men living on 3 continents, written over a period of 1500 years, yet speak one message just on thorns?!?! We live in a land of doubters and thorns but don’t be afraid.

Yahweh told Ezekiel:

Ezekiel 2:6 - "And you, son of man, do not be afraid of them nor be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns [are] with you and you dwell among scorpions; do not be afraid of their words or dismayed by their looks, though they [are] a rebellious house.

Yahweh is allowing us to dwell among thorns so that we will be tested and stay humble. Paul was given a thorn in his flesh to keep him from becoming to exalted. He was given tremendous revelations, insight, and wisdom by Yahweh

2Corinthians 12:7 - And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure.

Knowledge puffs up doesn’t it? Now a demon here is called a thorn because of the wickedness inside the demon. That demon was allowed to afflict Paul to keep him humble.

Brothers, lets hold fast to the faith, being strong, even among thorns, by cutting to the heart with the Word of Yahweh. Some when cut to the heart humble themselves.

Hebrews 6:4 - For [it is] impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit,

Hebrews 6:5 - and have tasted the good word of Elohim and the powers of the age to come,

Hebrews 6:6 - if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of Elohim, and put [Him] to an open shame.

Hebrews 6:7 - For the earth which drinks in the rain that often comes upon it, and bears herbs useful for those by whom it is cultivated, receives blessing from Elohim;

Hebrews 6:8 - but if it bears thorns and briars, [it is] rejected and near to being cursed, whose end [is] to be burned.

This is our warning.

Once we are blood bought, once we are believers in Messiah Yahushua, we cannot return when we fall away. Do not be among those who walk away from Messiah, who begin to doubt the Word of Elohim, to start to think I can sin all I want and bear all the thorns and briars and won’t be cursed or burned. That was the lie in the Garden of Eden.

Satan told Adam you can be disobedient and not surely die. When Adam began to bear the thorns, he had to perish. At the same time, do not think your own righteousness is going to cut it; you need the Messiah. We need both the Torah to direct us and drop seed in us so we can bear fruit and we need the Messiah, the water, to make us grow.

If you have received the Messiah brothers, do not lose heart. One thing that we know is that all thorns can do is shed blood. Like real thorns, there will be thorn bearing people of this world who seek to shed your blood both spiritually and physically. We have to resist and not choose to love our lives even unto death:

John 12:25 - "He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.

Revelation 12:11 - "And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.

We can overcome by the blood of the Lamb, by the word of our testimony. When we do, we will be the eternal dwelling place of Yahweh. Next time you are poked by a thorn remember the lessons: thorn seeds look innocent but in the end they will get you, and pay attention to what seeds are being sewn in your soil.

Father Yahweh we pray in the Name of Yahushua that You will help us see the thorns and to cut them down with Your Word, to seek to grow the fruit unto you Father Yahweh. Help us Father to be the people when you look down upon us, You see good plants, myrtle trees, plants that are bearing fruit and glorious to you and cannot stand the presence of thorns.

Help us Father Yahweh to be a people that want to be a dwelling place for your spirit that seek the Messiah Yahushua for cleansing and righteousness that we might be that acacia wood formerly full of thorns but adorned with gold and beauty so we might dwell with the consuming fire and not be consumed like the burning bush.

In Yahushua’s Name, Amein.

May Yahweh bring all of us back and may Yahweh have mercy on us all.
