Berean's message:

Praise YHWH!!

Shabbat Shalom mishpacha/family

I would like to give a study/message on Questioning and Examining Motives

From Websters Dictionary: Motive, a noun:something (as a need or desire) that causes a person to act

Motive: implies an emotion or desire operating on the will and causing it to act .

some Synonyms are: Impulse, Incentinve, Inducement, Spur, Goad

This study is intended to inspire each of us to consider our own motives diligently, and seek to Scripturally study further the implications of judging or examining other’s motives.

Here are a few questions that I feel we should ask ourselves, and seek the answers Scripturally.

I encourage everyone to read the Scriptures around the ones used in this study, for further edification, and understanding of contexts.

1-Do we examine the reasons we do things? ..... Should we?

2-Do we question our motives?................Should we?

3-Can we discern other peoples motives?..... Should we?

4-Do we question other peoples motives?........Should we?

2Corinthians 13:5 - Test yourselves whether you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Yahushua the Messiah is in you-- unless indeed you fail the test?

Galatians 6:3 - For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.

1Corinthians 11:28 - But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.

Haggai 1:5 - Now therefore thus saith YHWH of hosts; Consider your ways.

Haggai 1:6 - Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes.

Haggai 1:7 - Thus saith YHWH of hosts; Consider your ways.

Acts 17:30 - And the times of this ignorance YHWH winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:

Is ignorance an excuse?

Ignorance is not an excuse! We see that YHWH is merciful and kind beyond our deserving but YHWH commands us to repent, and that includes examining our actions, and our motives

Can we rely solely on our own examinations?

Can pride could prevent someone from seeing their true motives?

I feel it is vitally important that we pray for YHWH to search our hearts as well and reveal to us his findings

here is a right attitude:

Psalms 26:2 - Examine me, O YAHWEH, and prove me; try

my reins and my heart

Psalms 139:23 - Search me, O El, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:

Psalms 139:24 - And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Lamentations 3:41 - Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto El in the heavens.

if we lift up our hearts, will YHWH not examine them?

Proverbs 24:12 - If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works?

Judge our own hearts, our own motives, for we know, that YHWH certainly will.

Matthew 18:2 - And Yahushua called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them,

Matthew 18:3 - And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 18:4 - Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

we can look at some examples of motives.

Pride, selfishness, greed, lust..

these are examples of worldly motives

reasons people do things

on the other hand, we have love, sincerety, loyalty...... the fruits of the Ruach

Proverbs 10:12 - Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.

the contrast is shown here

The fruits of the Ruach, are what we should see, when we examine our motives!

Galatians 5:22 - But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

Ephesians 5:9 - (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth),

1Timothy 6:11 - But thou, O man of YHWH, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, reverence, faith, love, patience, meekness.

meekness

patience

love

Matthew 20:25 - But Yahushua called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them.

Matthew 20:26 - But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister;

Matthew 20:27 - And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:

John 15:13 - Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

speaking of others... friends, brethren, family

Zechariah 7:9 - Thus speaketh YHWH of hosts, saying, Execute true judgment, and shew mercy and compassions every man to his brother:

Matthew 7:1 - Judge not, that ye be not judged.

Matthew 7:2 - For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

i feel the meaning here, is to be careful how you judge, and to consider if you are qualified to judge

Matthew 7:3 - And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

Matthew 7:4 - Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?

how can one be indignant over the dirtiness of another persons house

when they have not considered their own?

and, if they have cleaned their own, will they be perhaps a bit more understanding, merciful, and just?

Luke 6:37 - Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:

1Corinthians 11:31 - For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.

1Corinthians 11:32 - But when we are judged, we are chastened of YHWH, that we should not be condemned with the world.

Deuteronomy 8:5 - Thou shalt also consider in thine heart, that, as a man chasteneth his son, so YHWH thy Elohim chasteneth thee.

Hebrews 12:6 - For whom YAHWEH loves He chastens, and scourges every son whom He receives."

Hebrews 12:7 - If you endure chastening, YAHWEH deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten?

sometimes, i think YHWH uses our mishpacha to correct us in love

i wish that we were not so stubborn, as to resent it

as is sometimes the case

mishpacha=family

family=assembly

Romans 14:10 - But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of the Messiah.

Romans 14:13 - Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's way.

i feel this is not referring to righteous judgement

more like a condemning judgement

1Corinthians 4:5 - Therefore judge nothing before the time, until Yahushua come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of YHWH.

we cannot accurately judge the hidden counsels of the heart

Yahshua knew mens hearts

and is the perfect judge in that matter.

Colossians 3:12 - Put on therefore, as the elect of YHWH, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;

Colossians 3:13 - Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as the Messiah forgave you, so also do ye.

Colossians 3:14 - And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.

Colossians 3:15 - And let the peace of Elohim rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.

Colossians 3:16 - Let the word of the Messiah dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with favor in your hearts to the Master.

James 3:11 - Does a spring send forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening?

James 3:12 - Can a fig tree, my brethren, bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh.

James 3:13 - Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct [that] his works are done in the meekness of wisdom.

James 3:14 - But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth.

James 3:15 - This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic.

James 3:16 - For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there.

James 3:17 - But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.

James 3:18 - Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

do the proper motives in our hearts lead us to anger?

or strife?

exaltation?

Matthew 5:22 - But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

Romans 14:10 - But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of the Messiah.

When we are angry with a brother, do we give them the benefit of the doubt? Do we examine our cause to be angry? Do we lightly esteem our brother?

Romans 12:10 - Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;

Romans 12:16 - Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.

another translation:Romans 12:16 - Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not be proud in mind, but go along with the lowly. Do not be wise in your own estimation.

Romans 12:18 - If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.

Romans 14:19 - Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.

Yahshua taught:

Matthew 12:50 - For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.

John 8:31 - Then said Yahushua to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;

John 15:8 - Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

John 15:12 - This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.

John 15:13 - Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

John 15:14 - Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

John 15:17 - These things I command you, that ye love one another.

John 13:35 - By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

What is love? is there room for offenses, or strife?

Do we use the excuse, that the person who hurt us ‘must not be a brother’, so I don’t have to love him?

Do we consider their motives with a dark eye, or a light eye?

do we expect blessing?

or cursing?

1Corinthians 13:4 - Love suffereth long, and is kind; love envieth not; love vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,

1Corinthians 13:5 - Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;

1Corinthians 13:6 - Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;

1Corinthians 13:7 - Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

...............Love Never Fails...

.....

Matthew 23:23 - Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

the weightier matters

not leaving the other undone

Jeremiah 17:9 - The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

Jeremiah 17:10 - I YHWH search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.

1Samuel 16:7 - But YHWH said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for YHWH seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but YHWH looketh on the heart.

Proverbs 21:2 - Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but YHWH pondereth the hearts.

Proverbs 21:3 - To do justice and judgment is more acceptable to YHWH than sacrifice.

Proverbs 28:5 - Evil men understand not judgment: but they that seek YHWH understand all things.

If we are to discern others motives, we see that the guidelines are in YHWH’s word.

Hebrews 4:12 - For the word of YAHWEH is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Ezekiel 18:8 - He that hath not given forth upon usury, neither hath taken any increase, that hath withdrawn his hand from iniquity, hath executed true judgment between man and man,

Ezekiel 18:9 - Hath walked in my statutes, and hath kept my judgments, to deal truly; he is just, he shall surely live, saith the Master YHWH.

executed true judgement

kept YHWH's judgements

dealing truly

Psalms 7:9 - Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end; but establish the just: for the righteous Elohim trieth the hearts and reins.

Psalms 17:3 - Thou has proved mine heart; thou hast visited me in the night; thou has tried me, and shalt find nothing; I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.

Psalms 17:4 - Concerning the works of men, by the word of thy lips I have kept me from the paths of the destroyer.

Philippians 2:12 - Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

Philippians 2:13 - For it is YHWH which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

Philippians 2:14 - Do all things without murmurings and disputings:

1Corinthians 16:14 - Let all your things be done with love.

2Corinthians 6:3 - giving no cause for offense in anything, in order that the ministry be not discredited,

2Corinthians 6:4 - but in everything commending ourselves as servants of Elohim, in much endurance, in afflictions, in hardships, in distresses,

1Corinthians 6:5 - I speak to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you? no, not one that shall be able to judge between his brethren?

1Corinthians 6:6 - But brother goeth to law with brother, and that before the unbelievers.

(wrong book)

2Corinthians 6:5 - in beatings, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labors, in sleeplessness, in hunger,

2Corinthians 6:6 - in purity, in knowledge, in patience, in kindness, in the Holy Spirit, in genuine love,

Ecclesiastes 12:13 - Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear Elohim, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

Ecclesiastes 12:14 - For Elohim shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil. .

Ecclesiastes 12:15 -

Psalms 31:23 - O love YHWH, all ye his saints: for YHWH preserveth the faithful, and plentifully rewardeth the proud doer.

Psalms 31:24 - Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in YHWH.

Praise YHWH

may you all have a Shalom Shabbat
