It is true that for 2000 years, mainstream christianity has taught that the Torah/law of Yahweh has been abolished.
Most of the scripture that is used to support this view comes from the writings of Paul.
In fact, were it not for Paul.. Christians would have almost nothing to stand on to support this particular view
Tonight, I would like to take an overview of Paul's writings to see if this is actually truth
For those who don't believe the Torah/Law of Yahweh is a valid standard of righteousness, please honestly consider the words and scriptures found in this study.
We will begin with a warning that Kepha/Peter gave concerning the writings of Paul.
In context, we find Kepha/Peter warning the reader to be diligent in pursuing righteousness and to be without spot and blameless:
2Peter 3:13 - Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.
2Peter 3:14 - Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless;So we are to be found by Him in peace. Without spot and blameless. And we should also remember that is through what Yahushua the Messiah has done that we receive salvation in the first place:
2Peter 3:15 - and consider that the longsuffering of our Master is salvation--as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you,Interesting that he relates this to what Paul has often written:
..even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;Paul's writings are full of wisdom in this matter of what Yahushua has done and how it relates to us
Over and over again, Paul defends the work of Yahushua the Messiah as being our only hope and our only true source of being justified or being declared righteous.
However, Paul is often misunderstood and Kepha/Peter knew that well
2Pet 3:16 As also in all [his] epistles, speaking in them of these things; "...in which are some things hard to be understood,"What things?
He says "these things"
What things are hard to understand?
"The longsuffering of our our Master is salvation"
This is so true and many agree that this wisdom that Yahweh gave Paul is often hard to understand
According to Kepha (Peter), His writings can easily be twisted/wrested/turned around/perverted/distorted by those who are "unlearned and unstable".
" which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as [they do] also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction."Some believe that this is referring to us who believe that although Salvation can only be attained by the righteousness of Yahushua the Messiah, we should still be obedient and live a life of Torah/Law observance
Could it indeed be referring to those who believe in keeping Yahweh's law while accounting that Yahushua's longsuffering is our salvation?
They say it is we who are doing the twisting/wresting/turning around/distorting
But upon examining this verse, there are at least 3 reasons why this cannot be so:
1. This scripture says it is 'those who are unlearned' who twist Paul's words. One who knows and believes in keeping the Torah are the ones who are 'learned' and know His will according to Paul himself
Romans 2:17 - Behold, thou art called a Jew, and restest in the law, and makest thy boast of Elohim,
Romans 2:18 - And knowest his will, and approvest the things that are more excellent, being instructed out of the law;HalleluYah!!!
2. Peter interprets his own words by saying "Ye also" in the remaining verses:
2Peter 3:17 - You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked;"Ye also" or "you also" implies that the result of the twisting is one being led away in the error of the "wicked".
See in context..
2Peter 3:15 - and consider that the longsuffering of our Master is salvation--as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you,
2Peter 3:16 - as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures.
2Peter 3:17 - You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked;So one who twists his writings are led away with the "error of the wicked"
The word translated "Wicked" here is "athesmos". The definition of "athesmos" according to the Thayer's lexicon is as follows...
5 113 athesmos {ath'-es-mos} from 1 (as a negative particle) and a derivative of 5087 (in the sense of enacting); TDNT - 1:167,25; adj AV - wicked 2; 2
1) one who breaks through the restraint of law and gratifies his lusts
So apparently the "error" and the result of the twisting/wresting/turning around/distorting is one who breaks through the restraint of law rather than one who keeps the law
The third reason..
3. The offenders are twisting/wresting/turning around/distorting to their "own destruction" according to the verse. It isn't the commandment keepers that will be destroyed, it is the commandment breakers.
Remember, Kepha said:
2Peter 3:13 - Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.Only righteousness dwells in the new heavens and new earth
Revelation 22:14 - Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.
Revelation 22:15 - But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie.You see, Paul himself believed in keeping the Law:
Acts 25:8 - While he answered for himself, Neither against the law of the Jews, neither against the temple, nor yet against Caesar, have I offended any thing at all.
Acts 18:21 - But bade them farewell, saying, I must by all means keep this feast that cometh in Jerusalem: but I will return again unto you, if YAHWEH will. And he sailed from Ephesus.
Romans 7:25 - Thanks be to YAHWEH through Yahushua the Messiah our Saviour. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of YAHWEH; but with the flesh the law of sin.In fact, Paul says that the doers of the Law will be justified and those who break it will be judged
Romans 2:12 - For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;
Romans 2:13 - (For not the hearers of the law are just before YAHWEH, but the doers of the law shall be justified.The word that is translated "without Law" here is word #460 which means "not amenable to the Jewish/Mosaic Law". (See Thayers and/or Strong's Greek lexicon)
Again, Paul says that we know His will and approve the things that are excellent when instructed out of the Law:
Romans 2:17 - Behold, thou art called a Jew, and restest in the law, and makest thy boast of Elohim,
Romans 2:18 - And knowest his will, and approvest the things that are more excellent, being instructed out of the law;
Romans 2:19 - And art confident that thou thyself art a guide of the blind, a light of them which are in darkness,
Romans 2:20 - An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, which hast the form of knowledge and of the truth in the law.Continuing here, he says that when we break the Law, we dishonor Yahweh and blaspheme His name:
Romans 2:21 - Thou therefore which teachest another, teachest thou not thyself? thou that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal?
Romans 2:22 - Thou that sayest a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege?
Romans 2:23 - Thou that makest thy boast of the law, through breaking the law dishonourest thou YAHWEH?
Romans 2:24 - For the name of YAHWEH is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is written.Therefore, breaking the law of Yahweh dishonors Him and Yahweh's name is blasphemed among the world when we break it
Here Paul twice states that we learn what sin is from the Law:
Romans 3:20 - Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
Romans 7:7 - What shall we say then? Is the law sin? By no means!! Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.This backs up the statement in 1John 3:4 that Sin is transgression of the Law:
1John 3:4 - Whoever commits sin trangresses also the law, for sin is the transgression of the law.There we have at least 3 verses in the so-called "New testament" that clearly declares an awesome truth to us
Sin = Breaking Yahweh's law!
Therefore, whenever Paul or any writer refers to "Sin", it is the law breaking that is being referred to. For Sin IS transgression of the law, by the law is the knowledge of sin and we know what sin is "By the law!"
Therefore the law of Yahweh IS the standard of righteousness for all.
And he isn't just talking about the 10 commandments. For otherwise, homosexuality and incest would not even be sin!
Neither are forbidden in the 10 commandments
Here is a key scripture proving that Paul believed that thru faith we do not make the Law void, but rather we establish the Law:
Romans 3:31 - Do we then make void the law through faith? By no means! Yea, we establish the law.In the greek, "To establish" means "To cause or make to stand" (#2476).
Do we "cause the law to stand" by our faith or do we tear it down?
Here is another key scripture like the one above proving that Paul did not believe that once we are under grace, that we can continue to sin (break the Law)
Romans 6:15 - What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under favor? By no means!!
Romans 6:16 - Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?Here Paul is putting "the Law" and "the commandment" on equal par and stating his opinion of them:
Romans 7:12 - Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.This is contrary to those who say the law is a curse and a burden
Here is an unpopular statement of Paul's. Many would like to believe that the Law is "of the flesh" and not "of the spirit".
But Paul says:
Romans 7:14 - For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.The law is spiritual, not carnal
Do we delight in the law of Yahweh? Paul delights in the Law of Yahweh..
Romans 7:22 - For I delight in the law of YAHWEH after the inward man:Now let's move on to where Paul uses the term "Lawlessness" or "Iniquity"
The word that is translated "Lawlessness" or "Iniquity" in the following verses is the greek word "anomia" which carries the following definition:
5 BDB/Thayers # 458 458 anomia {an-om-ee'-ah} from 459; TDNT - 4:1085,646; n f AV - iniquity 12, unrighteousness 1, transgress the law + 4060 1,
5transgression of the law 1; 15
1) the condition of without law
1a) because ignorant of it
1b) because of violating it
2) contempt and violation of law, iniquity, wickedness
Now for a second witness here is the definition of this in the Strong's Hebrew Lexicon:
5458. anomia, an-om-ee'-ah; from 459; illegality, i.e. violation of the law or (gen.) wickedness: --- iniquity X transgress (ion of) the law, unrighteousness
Now note that both lexicons it states that both of these words come from the greek word #459.
This means that the root of "anomia" is #459, "anomos". This word (#459) means "To be destitute or in violation of the Mosaic or Jewish Law" (See Thayer's and Strong's Lexicons).
The word #458 is translated "transgression of the Law" in the King James version of 1john 3:4
1John 3:4 - Whoever commits sin trangresses also the law, for sin is the transgression of the law."transgression of the law" = #458 anomia
Yes, this was written by John but it is surely showing that this word is certainly the definition of sin. For sin is anomia (condition of being without the Law or violation of the Law, transgression of the Law)
In these verses he shows that righteousness is the opposite of transgression of the law (#458 in violation of the Law).
Therefore if one is keeping the Law, they must walking in righteousness. (Though this is confirmed already by many verses I have already shown.)
Please also remember this for later in the study.
The reason why knowing the real definition is so important is because it is disguised in many translations
Romans 6:19 - I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.
2Corinthians 6:14 - Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness?Here again, Paul equates this word (#458) Lawless/Iniquity with SIN.
Romans 4:7 - Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.It is translated "iniquity" but there is certainly a fuller meaning intended!
Here obedience placed on equal par with righteousness (as defined by the Law)
Romans 10:5 - For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them.Here are many other scriptures then where Paul says that we ought to walk in righteousness:
Romans 5:8 - But YAHWEH commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, the Messiah died for us.wrong book
Ephesians 5:8 - For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Saviour. Walk as children of light
Ephesians 5:9 - (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth),
Ephesians 5:10 - finding out what is acceptable to YAHWEH.
2Timothy 2:22 - Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on YAHWEH out of a pure heart.Now here is an example where Paul takes another step forward in showing that ALL SCRIPTURE (which must include the Law of Yahweh because there was no written "new testament" at that time) is given by Yahweh, profitable for doctrine, for reproof and instruction in righteousness:
2Timothy 3:16 - All scripture is given by inspiration of YAHWEH, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
2Timothy 3:17 - That the man of YAHWEH may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.The law of Yahweh is perfect, therefore it is profitable for:
1. Doctrine
2. Reproof
3. Instruction is righteousness
Yet, when you quote the law of Yahweh to most people, they say "Oh well that's just the Old Testament"
Is Paul a liar?
No, he spoke the truth. All scripture is profitable for doctrine, for reproof and instruction in righteousness
2Timothy 3:18 -
2Timothy 3:17 - That the man of YAHWEH may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.Therefore, there should be very little doubt that according to these verses in which Paul spoke, he certainly upheld the Law as the very definition of righteousness and holiness
And he taught that breaking these commandments is Unrighteousness, Lawlessness, wickedness, and most importantly, SIN.
Therefore we can conclude that whenever Paul speaks of Sin..he most certainly is talking about disobeying the commandments in the Law
How many more scriptures could be added where Paul speaks against sin? This study would certainly be quite long!
Therefore, we can see that: Torah obedience was expected.
Anything less is the way of death, according to Paul:
Romans 8:6 - For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
Romans 8:7 - Because the carnal mind is enmity against YAHWEH: for it is not subject to the law of YAHWEH, neither indeed can be.Are we not to pursue LIFE (eternal) and PEACE (with Yahweh) ?
Isn't that what Peter encouraged us to do?
2Peter 3:14 - Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless;
2Peter 3:15 - and consider that the longsuffering of our Master is salvation--as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you,Therefore, let us be spiritually minded
and place ourselves in subjection to His law
Romans 8:7 - Because the carnal mind is enmity against YAHWEH: for it is not subject to the law of YAHWEH, neither indeed can be.Yet, it must be done out of love for Yahweh
Else we aren't really keeping the law at all!
Deuteronomy 6:5 - And thou shalt love YAHWEH thy Elohim with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.Now, with love for Yahweh and for our fellow man in mind, let's place ourselves in subjection to His word, which is not a burden but rather, a blessing because it is His will for our lives..and we love to do His will and do what pleases Him
1John 5:3 - For this is the love of YAHWEH, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.Yahushua said:
John 8:29 - And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.Indeed, by this we can be sure that we truly know Yahweh!
1John 2:3 - Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments.
1John 2:4 - He who says, "I know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.Let's not be liars, and let's not make Paul a liar
1John 2:5 - But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of YAHWEH is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him.
1John 2:6 - He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.
1John 3:18 - My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.
1John 3:19 - And by this we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him.
1John 3:24 - Now he who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. And by this we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us.HalleluYah, we can have the blessed assurance that we are His.. if we love Him and keep His commandments
And we then can know the spirit of truth from the spirit of error
1John 4:4 - You are of YAHWEH, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
1John 4:5 - They are of the world. Therefore they speak as of the world, and the world hears them.
1John 4:6 - We are of YAHWEH. He who knows YAHWEH hears us; he who is not of YAHWEH does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.
1John 3:10 - In this the children of YAHWEH and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of YAHWEH, nor is he who does not love his brother.How will the world know we are His?
John 13:35 - By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.And how do we know we love one another?
1John 5:2 - By this we know that we love the children of YAHWEH, when we love YAHWEH and keep His commandments.
1John 5:3 - For this is the love of YAHWEH, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.But sadly..
This is an unknown message to this generation.
Our Fathers have inherited many lies
You see, Satan is the father of lies and he wants to trick you into thinking you don't have to keep what Yahweh commands.
This is part of the "Strong delusion" sent by Yahweh to those who do not love the truth, but have pleasure in their commandment breaking/unrighteousness
2Thessalonians 2:11 - And for this cause YAHWEH shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
2Thessalonians 2:12 - That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.Let's flee from this delusion! Let's believe the truth! His word, His law is truth!
John 17:17 - Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.His Word Is Truth!
And Yahushua IS the Word
and therefore.. is truth!
John 14:6 - Yahushua saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.Yahushua did not sin (transgress the law), He kept the law perfectly:
Hebrews 4:15 - For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.Therefore, if we die and He lives in us then we too can be declared righteous!
Galatians 2:20 - "I have been impaled with the Messiah; it is no longer I who live, but the Messiah lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of YAHWEH, who loved me and gave Himself for me.THANK YOU FATHER!!
This is why we only can be justified in the sight of Yahweh through Yahushua the Messiah
Therefore, let us conform ourselves to His image by seeking His will and light and applying it to our lives.
Yahushua said:
Matthew 5:17 - Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.Don't even think it!
Matthew 5:18 - For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.Not all has been fulfilled, there is much more to come! Yahushua will return and set up His kingdom of righteousness on earth where the law will be kept and sin will be punished
Matthew 5:19 - Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.What are 'these least commandments' from?
From the law that Yahushua was talking about! The same law He said he didn't come to destroy. So plain! So clear!
Therefore, let's press on to be called great and blessed of Yahweh in the kingdom of heaven
And we must take this message to all nations and expose the grand deception. Not all will hear, but Yahushua said we should be doing this!
Matthew 28:19 - Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit:
Matthew 28:20 - Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the age.Let's teach them to do the things Yahushua commanded...He is the Word and what He (the Word) spoke 3000 years ago at Sinai is just as much HIS WILL as what He (the WORD) spoke 2000 years ago at the Sermon on the Mount
Brethren, I have never seen such an opportunity
Along with the thousands of Jews that are starting to accept Yahushua the Messiah, there are thousands upon thousands of Christians are seeking to know about the hebraic roots of their faith and they are finding that the torah is for today!
The field is ripe and there is a shortage of laborers. Let's teach all nations to observe the commandments as Yahushua said. Let's live our lives like Yahushua lived His, for Yahweh promised there is great reward!
Psalms 19:7 - The law of YAHWEH is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of YAHWEH is sure, making wise the simple.
Psalms 19:8 - The statutes of YAHWEH are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of YAHWEH is pure, enlightening the eyes.
Psalms 19:9 - The fear of YAHWEH is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of YAHWEH are true and righteous altogether.
Psalms 19:10 - More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
Psalms 19:11 - Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.Yahweh promises a reward and I believe it.
