During this time of year many are making the preparations needed for the observance of Passover and Feast of Unleavened Bread.
My family and I are looking forward to the observances this coming week.
In light of this time of year I would like to take the opportunity to discuss the importance of baptism in the life of a believer.
This study will discuss some of the meanings and purposes of baptism.
We read in the book of Acts where the Holy Spirit had been poured out upon the believers in Yahushua. Immediately after this, Kepha/Peter said:
Acts 2:14 - But Kepha, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:
Acts 2:15 - For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.
Acts 2:16 - But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;
Acts 2:17 - And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith YAHWEH,I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
Acts 2:18 - And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:
Acts 2:19 - And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:
Acts 2:20 - The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and terrible day of YAHWEH come:
Acts 2:21 - And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of YAHWEH shall be saved.
Acts 2:22 - Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Yahushua of Nazareth, a man approved of YAHWEH among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which YAHWEH did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:
Acts 2:23 - Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of YAHWEH, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:
Acts 2:24 - Whom YAHWEH hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.
Acts 2:25 - For David speaketh concerning him, I saw YAHWEH always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:
Acts 2:26 - Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope:
Acts 2:27 - Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
Acts 2:28 - Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance.
Acts 2:29 - Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day.
Acts 2:30 - Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that YAHWEH had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up the Messiah to sit on his throne;
Acts 2:31 - He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of the Messiah, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.
Acts 2:32 - This Yahushua hath YAHWEH raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.
Acts 2:33 - Therefore being by the right hand of YAHWEH exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.
Acts 2:34 - For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, YAHWEH said unto my master, Sit thou on my right hand,
Acts 2:35 - Until I make thy foes thy footstool.
Acts 2:36 - Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that YAHWEH hath made that same Yahushua, whom ye have crucified, both King and Messiah.
Acts 2:37 - Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Kepha and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
Acts 2:38 - Then Kepha said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Yahushua the Messiah for the forgiveness of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Acts 2:39 - For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as YAHWEH our Elohim shall call.
The promise!
To all of those whom Yahweh will call
And what a promise it is considering the helpless state mankind is in.
Proverbs 20:9 - Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?
Ecclesiastes 7:20 - For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.
1John 1:8 - If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
Because we have indeed sinned, we need to be reconciled to Yahweh.
For only righteousness will eternally dwell in the Kingdom of Yahweh
To have any hope of entering in, we must be righteous.
The obvious problem is that we have not been righteous.
So how do we attain righteousness?
Yahweh spoke through Isaiah:
Isaiah 54:17 - No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of YAHWEH, and their righteousness is of me, saith YAHWEH.
It is clear that from reading the above verse, that Yahweh says all of our righteousness comes from Him.
But being unclean sinners, how do we get Yahweh's righteousness in us?
The prophets indicated that we would get the righteousness of Yahweh through the future Messiah:
Jeremiah 23:5 - Behold, the days come, saith YAHWEH, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.
This "righteous branch" shall reign over all the earth.
This "righteous branch" is the Messiah
Jeremiah 23:6 - In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, YAHWEH OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.
Here, we read that the Messiah is called: "Yahweh OUR Righteousness".
There are other scriptures that speak of the righteousness of Yahweh and how the Messiah will bring it to Yahweh's people.
Isaiah 45:23 - I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.
Isaiah 45:24 - Surely, shall one say, in YAHWEH have I righteousness and strength: even to him shall men come; and all that are incensed against him shall be ashamed.
Isaiah 45:25 - In YAHWEH shall all the seed of Israel be justified, and shall glory.
When Yahweh swears an oath, we would do well to listen. He swore an oath to Abraham and look at all that Yahweh did to keep that oath.
Part of this oath was that all people would say "'Surely in Yahweh I have righteousness and strength".
Notice later in the verse that it says "in Yahweh" shall all the descendants of Israel be justified.
In Isaiah 53, a clear messianic prophecy it says:
Isaiah 53:10 - Yet it pleased YAHWEH to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of YAHWEH shall prosper in his hand.
Isaiah 53:11 - He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
The "righteous servant" is the "righteous branch" of Jeremiah 23 who is called "Yahweh our righteousness (Yahweh Tzidkenu)"
Notice in Isaiah 53:11 it says that this righteous servant shall "Justify many"
And in Isaiah 45:25 it says "in Yahweh shall all the seed of Israel be justified"
Because this Messianic Servant was truly righteous, he is an acceptable "trespass offering" without blemish and is able to "bear our iniquities"
Yahweh shows us the need for an intercessor in Isaiah 59:
Isaiah 59:15 - Yea, truth faileth; and he that departeth from evil maketh himself a prey: and YAHWEH saw it, and it displeased him that there was no judgment.
Isaiah 59:16 - And he saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor: therefore his arm brought salvation unto him; and his righteousness, it sustained him.
Yahweh's arm brought the salvation needed. His righteousness sustained Yahweh.
This takes us again to Isaiah 53:
Isaiah 53:1 - Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of YAHWEH revealed?
Isaiah 53:2 - For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.
Isaiah 53:3 - He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
It is only through the Messiah that we can approach the Father for it is only through Him that we are worthy.
For in the Messiah, all of us are "justified" (a word meaning, "Declared righteous!"
)
This is why Yahushua said:
John 14:6 - Yahushua saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Through the Messiah's love for us, He came and gave of Himself so that we might have life.
Yahweh loved us enough to give His only begotten Son:
John 3:14 - And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
(Note that that serpent was lifted up on a pole, not a "cross")
John 3:15 - That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
John 3:16 - For YAHWEH so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:17 - For YAHWEH sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
John 3:18 - He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of YAHWEH.
We must believe in His NAME
But why would Yahushua liken Himself to the serpent lifted in the wilderness?
Isaiah 53:6 - All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and YAHWEH hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
Galatians 3:13 - The Messiah has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree"),
Yahushua became cursed for our sakes
On Him was laid the sin of every one of us
It seems so unthinkable, but Yahushua willingly did this for us
For it was necessary that He might die, so that He might live in us.
Romans 5:8 - But YAHWEH commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, the Messiah died for us.
Romans 5:9 - Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
Romans 5:10 - For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to YAHWEH by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.
Romans 5:11 - And not only so, but we also joy in YAHWEH through our Saviour Yahushua the Messiah, by whom we have now received the atonement.
Romans 5:12 - Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
Romans 5:13 - (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law.
Romans 5:14 - Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.
Romans 5:15 - But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of YAHWEH, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Yahushua the Messiah, hath abounded unto many.
Romans 5:16 - And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification.
Romans 5:17 - For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Yahushua the Messiah.)
Romans 5:18 - Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.
Therefore as sin entered the world through one man, Adam. The justification (making righteous) of all who seek it comes through Yahushua the Messiah.
Now that we are justified, are we able to freely and willfully sin and continue receiving that justification?
Romans 6:1 - What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
Romans 6:2 - By no means! How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
How shall we??
Romans 6:3 - Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Yahushua the Messiah were baptized into his death?
Romans 6:4 - Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as the Messiah was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
Romans 6:5 - For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
Romans 6:6 - Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
Romans 6:7 - For he that is dead is freed from sin.
Therefore, in our baptism:
Colossians 2:11 - In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of the Messiah:
Colossians 2:12 - Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of YAHWEH, who hath raised him from the dead.
Baptism is representing that very change that is promised to those who receive it
It is to represent our participation in the death of Yahushua:
Galatians 2:20 - "I have been impaled with the Messiah; it is no longer I who live, but the Messiah lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of YAHWEH, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
Indeed it is no longer we who live. We died to sin, and we are raised with Him
Thus, we are made righteous. The righteousness of Yahweh that is in Yahushua is applied to each of us.
It is not our own righteousness that saves us, it is Yahweh's righteousness in Yahushua that saves us (justifies us, declaring us righteous)
Again, this is not to say that we are free to sin all we want:
Romans 6:10 - For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto YAHWEH.
Romans 6:11 - Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto YAHWEH through Yahushua the Messiah our Saviour.
Romans 6:12 - Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
Romans 6:13 - Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto YAHWEH, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto YAHWEH.
Romans 6:14 - For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
Romans 6:15 - What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? By no means!
Romans 6:16 - Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
So, we see that in the above scriptures, a great deal of effort is made to show us that Yahweh desires us to now live a holy, righteous and clean life.
We can do it with the strength that Yahweh gives to us. With men, it is impossible, but with Yahweh all things are possible. When Yahushua lives in us.. indeed we can overcome.
Keeping Yahweh's commandments should be a natural expression of our love for Him. If we love Yahweh, we will want to do the things that please Him and we will want to walk in righteousness, having no desire to return to the sinful things of our former life.
Part of living a holy life is keeping the things holy that Yahweh has made holy. And this is why we are here today. To keep holy what Yahweh has made holy...the Sabbath day.
If we purposely defile or disregard what Yahweh has made holy, then it is evidence of our lack of true belief. For it is written in the book of James:
James 2:14 - What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him?
James 2:18 - But someone will say, "You have faith, and I have works." Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.
Thus, our works is an expression of our faith in Yahweh through Yahushua the Messiah. HalleluYah for the strength He gives us through the Spirit He has given us.
Let's now look deeper into what was typically done at baptism. We read earlier that 3000 people were baptized as a result of what happened on the day of Pentecost. There are some other examples of baptism as well . Let's look at some
Acts 8:27 - And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship,
Acts 8:28 - Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Isaiah the prophet.
Acts 8:29 - Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.
Acts 8:30 - And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Isaiah, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?
Acts 8:31 - And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.
Acts 8:32 - The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth:
Acts 8:33 - In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth.
He was reading from Isaiah 53, the same prophecies we were looking at earlier.
Acts 8:34 - And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?
Acts 8:35 - Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Yahushua.
Acts 8:36 - And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?
Acts 8:37 - And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Yahushua the Messiah is the Son of YAHWEH.
Acts 8:38 - And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.
Note that it was Philip who actually did the baptizing here.
"he (Philip) baptized him (the Ethiopian)"
This is contrary to the practice in some Messianic groups today where the person baptizes themselves
(a person)
Baptism is not a "self-baptism" with people watching
The actual process of bringing someone under the water is done by the baptizer
Thus, John the baptist is called John "the baptist"
Note also that it was only required that the person had a repentant heart and believed in Yahushua.
There was not a long checklist of qualifications
In fact, Simon the Sorcerer was even baptized.
Acts 8:9 - But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one:
Acts 8:10 - To whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of Elohim.
Acts 8:11 - And to him they had regard, because that of long time he had bewitched them with sorceries.
Acts 8:12 - But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of YAHWEH, and the name of Yahushua the Messiah, they were baptized, both men and women.
Acts 8:13 - Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done.
Also note in verse 12 that women were also baptized.
But again we see that there wasn't a long list of qualifications and things to learn. It was based on the condition of the heart, not the ability to perform commandments
Some desire to wait around until they are perfected in some kind of sin they are struggling with until they decide to get baptized. But in scripture being baptized is one of the first things a believer in Yahushua should do.
We see in scripture that it was always done quickly after believing in Yahushua:
Paul was immediately baptized:
Acts 9:17 - And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Saviour, even Yahushua, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Spirit.
Acts 9:18 - And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized.
The Phillipian jailer was immediately baptized:
Acts 16:31 - And they said, Believe on the Saviour Yahushua the Messiah, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
Acts 16:32 - And they spake unto him the word of YAHWEH, and to all that were in his house.
Acts 16:33 - And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.
In fact, Paul later reports that Yahushua told him:
Acts 22:16 - And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of YAHWEH.
If you have repented and are a believer in Yahushua but have not been baptized, do not tarry/wait!
Do what it takes to be baptized in Yahushua's name
I know of one person who flew all the way from Norway to the United States to be baptized.
Another person drove 12 hours through a snowstorm to get baptized in a creek on when it was 14 degrees F outside.
Yahushua indicated how important it was when He said:
John 3:5 - Yahushua answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of YAHWEH.
Therefore upon hearing the command to be baptized, I encourage everyone to do what it takes to be baptized as soon as possible.
Yet, for some reason in this age there are some who seek to put a resistance up to baptism. The belief is that “baptism doesn’t save you” therefore there is no good reason to even be baptized. But remember in the book of Acts Kepha said:
Acts 2:38 - Then Kepha said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Yahushua the Messiah for the forgiveness of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
First we must repent, then be baptized in Yahushua’s name. But if we refuse to be baptized even though it is clearly commanded, where is the evidence of our repentance? Even Paul said:
Acts 26:19 - Whereupon, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision:
Acts 26:20 - But shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judaea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to YAHWEH, and do works meet for repentance.
We need to do works meet for repentance. This means that we ought to do works worthy of repentance.
If we refuse to be baptized even though Yahweh clearly commanded it, it is evidence that we have yet to really repent.
We should be looking for what Yahweh desires us to do, not looking for ways to get away with refusing to do what He commands.
Another important aspect is found in Acts 2:38
Acts 2:38 - Then Kepha said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Yahushua the Messiah for the forgiveness of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
"ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."
This is a promise!
Acts 2:39 - For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as YAHWEH our Elohim shall call.
To all who are afar off.. in generation after generation
As many as Yahweh calls
Luke 11:11 - If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?
Luke 11:12 - Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?
Luke 11:13 - If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
Let's look at some other things Yahushua said about the Holy Spirit:
John 14:15 - If ye love me, keep my commandments.
John 14:16 - And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
John 14:17 - Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
John 14:18 - I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
John 14:19 - Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.
John 14:20 - At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.
John 16:12 - I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.
John 16:13 - Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
John 14:26 - But the Comforter, which is the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
The Spirit leads us into all truth.
This is a lost world we live in where lies and tradition have hidden the real truth.
But when we heed the call and walk in the light that Yahweh has revealed to us, we can see through it all.
His truth is in His word. It has been here all along, we only need to seek it, walk in it and not fear what others might say or what the consequences are when we walk in it.
Yahweh will take care of us, we only need to have the faith that He will.. no matter what. And He will!
But we must count the cost of being Yahushua's disciple. We need to be willing to give up our lives and lay it all at His feet.
We need to be willing to walk away from our past sins and walk a new life.
Great rewards await those who choose to live the way Yahushua lived. We can be where He is. This is the good news. And good news it is.
Yahushua said:
Matthew 28:19 - Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit:
Notice here that we have a scripture declaring that we must be baptized in the name of the Father AND the Son AND the Holy Spirit.
But now read this:
Acts 2:38 - Then Kepha said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Yahushua the Messiah for the forgiveness of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Now this scripture declares that we must repent and be baptized in the Name of the Son only. Why is this? Do these two scriptures contradict?
Certainly not! But what is the answer here?
The answer is revealed only if you call on the Name of Yahweh and the Name of Yahushua.
Let's look at the Name of Yahushua. It also consists of two parts: Yahu being the first syllable and shua being the second.
It means "Yahweh saves" or "Yahweh is salvation"
Yahu = Yahueh/Yahweh
Shua = Saves/is salvation
Thus, it is written:
Matthew 1:21 - And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Yahushua : for he shall save his people from their sins.
So the Son's Name actually contains the Fathers Name within it. With this understanding we see the fullness of what Yahushua meant in John 5:43
John 5:43 - I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.
So if we are baptized in the Name of Yahushua then we are actually baptized in the Name of the Father AND the Name of the Son. For the Father's name is found within the name of the Son.
Now what about the Holy Spirit?
John 14:26 - But the Comforter, which is the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
"the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name"
So the Holy Spirit comes in the Name of Yahushua!
Therefore, when we are baptized in the name of Yahushua, then we indeed being baptized in the Name of the Father, the Name of the Son and of the Holy Spirit!
You will not find the Name of the Father in the man made name, "Jesus." Nor does "Jesus" resemble the Son's true name.
Thus it doesn't resemble the name in which the Holy Spirit comes either!
So if we desire to worship Him in Spirit and in truth, we should also become baptized in the REAL name of the Messiah: Yahushua.
Now, I am not saying that everyone who has been baptized in the name of Jesus are lost and doomed to destruction.
After all, some men might never have had the chance to know His true name.
However, once we become a believer, we are called to be obedient and love the truth as we know it.
If we were not baptized correctly, we become aware that we have not properly fulfilled the commandment to be baptized.
Suppose for a moment that someone was not really baptized (immersed in water) but only sprinkled with water in Yahushua's name.
Such a person has yet to really fulfill that commandments
(commandment)
They have not yet been "baptized/immersed" in Yahushua's name.
Therefore, even though their repentance was genuine and faith very real, they would want to make sure they have indeed fulfilled that commandment.
Thus, they would go and get truly baptized/immersed and not just sprinkled with water.
Now let's say that someone was immersed/baptized in the wrong name.
A person with a willing and obedient heart should want to do it correctly and seek to be baptized in the real and truthful name of Yahushua once enlightened.
That way, on the day of judgment they can indeed say that they have fulfilled that commandment to the best of their understanding.
And believe it, scripture speaks much of the importance of Yahushua's name!
Acts 4:12 - Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
So let's fulfill His word and be baptized in Yahushua's name just as Yahweh desires
In baptism, we have a outward confession of an inward change
In baptism we are saying that we have repented of our sins and we are committed to living the new life in Yahushua the Messiah.
In baptism we are confessing that we have made our decision. It separates the believers from those riding on the fence, too ashamed to walk with Him.
In baptism we are saying that we have decided to follow Yahushua.
In baptism, we are saying that we are putting the word of Yahweh before us, and the things of this world behind us.
In baptism we are saying that though few go with us, we still will follow...to the point of death if needed.
In baptism we are saying that we are not ashamed.
We are glad to be called His disciple.
We are glad to be called the children of the Most High Elohim.
For He is eternal, and He is the the unchanging hand to which we seek to cleave onto with all the strength He gives us.
We are declaring that He is worthy of our trust!
He is the most powerful being in the universe, surely He is worthy of our trust.
May Yahweh bless you, and may He have mercy on us all!
