YermeYah - HalleluYAH
BrGreg - HalleluYAH \o/
EliYah - Praise Yahweh ! :)
EliYah - Tonite I would like to talk about a subject that BrGreg brought up some time ago and has been on my heart recently...
EliYah - It has to do with the power of our words... and also what Yahweh thinks about flattery.
EliYah - Our words are powerful..
EliYah - James 3:1 - My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment.
EliYah - James 3:2 - For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body.
EliYah - James 3:3 - Indeed, we put bits in horses' mouths that they may obey us, and we turn their whole body.
EliYah - James 3:4 - Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires.
EliYah - James 3:5 - Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles!
EliYah - James 3:6 - And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell.
EliYah - James 3:7 - For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind.
EliYah - James 3:8 - But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
EliYah - James 3:9 - With it we bless YAHWEH our Father and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of YAHWEH.
EliYah - James 3:10 - Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.
EliYah - James 3:11 - Does a spring send forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening?
EliYah - James 3:12 - Can a fig tree, my brethren, bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh.
EliYah - James 3:13 - Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct [that] his works are done in the meekness of wisdom.
EliYah - So there is a certain danger that exists for those who are teachers of Yahweh as well as all of Yahweh's servants
EliYah - Let us heed Yahshua's warning:
EliYah - Matthew 12:35 - A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.
EliYah - Matthew 12:36 - But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
EliYah - Matthew 12:37 - For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.
EliYah - I have learned the reality of this scripture even this week. Truly this is a powerful saying!
EliYah - We need to always consider that every word we speak will be brought before the Judge. Can we stand before the Son of Man?
EliYah - Surely we must be humble and ask Yahweh to put a guard on our mouths...
EliYah - Psalms 141:3 - Set a watch, O YAHWEH, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.
EliYah - Psalms 141:4 - Incline not my heart to any evil thing, to practise wicked works with men that work iniquity: and let me not eat of their dainties.
EliYah - Especially on Yahweh's Sabbath day:
EliYah - Isaiah 58:13 - If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of YAHWEH, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:
EliYah - May our words be His words this day! HalleluYah!
EliYah - Isaiah 58:14 - Then shalt thou delight thyself in YAHWEH; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of YAHWEH hath spoken it.
EliYah - Let's take heed also to the power that the words of others can have on us...For instance, the power of flattery.
EliYah - The literal meaning of the word "Flattery" in Hebrew means to be "Smooth" or "to entice" but I believe "Flattery" is also a good translation.
EliYah - The following are some interesting scriptures on flattery:
EliYah - Jeremiah 17:5 - Thus saith YAHWEH; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from YAHWEH.
EliYah - Job 17:5 - He that speaketh flattery to his friends, even the eyes of his children shall fail.
EliYah - Proverbs 26:28 - A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.
EliYah - Job 32:31 -
EliYah - Job 32:32 -
EliYah - Job 32:21 - Let me not, I pray you, accept any man's person, neither let me give flattering titles unto man.
EliYah - Job 32:22 - For I know not to give flattering titles; in so doing my maker would soon take me away.
EliYah - Psalms 12:1 - Help, YAHWEH; for the righteous man ceaseth; for the faithful fail from among the children of men.
EliYah - Psalms 12:2 - They speak vanity every one with his neighbour: with flattering lips and with a double heart do they speak.
EliYah - Psalms 12:3 - YAHWEH shall cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaketh proud things:
EliYah - Psalms 12:4 - Who have said, With our tongue will we prevail; our lips are our own: who is master over us?
EliYah - Proverbs 20:19 - He that goeth about as a talebearer revealeth secrets: therefore meddle not with him that flattereth with his lips.
EliYah - Surely this person will tell the world of your secrets while they flatter you into revealing them.
EliYah - Proverbs 28:23 - He that rebuketh a man afterwards shall find more favour than he that flattereth with the tongue.
EliYah - Romans 16:17 - Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.
EliYah - Romans 16:18 - For they that are such serve not our Saviour YAHSHUA the Messiah, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.
EliYah - Beware especially of deceptive flatterers who try to teach the word of Yahweh!
EliYah - This is rampant today and most preachers who practice it are very popular.
EliYah - They will gain members and followers but it is not Yahshua's voice if it is a voice of flattery.
EliYah - This is the danger of heeding the voice of man and not the words of Yahweh.
EliYah - John 10:27 - My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
EliYah - John 10:28 - And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
EliYah - Can man flatter Yahweh?
EliYah - Yes...
EliYah - Psalms 78:24 - And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven.
EliYah - Psalms 78:25 - Man did eat angels' food: he sent them meat to the full.
EliYah - Psalms 78:26 - He caused an east wind to blow in the heaven: and by his power he brought in the south wind.
EliYah - Psalms 78:27 - He rained flesh also upon them as dust, and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea:
EliYah - Psalms 78:28 - And he let it fall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations.
EliYah - Psalms 78:29 - So they did eat, and were well filled: for he gave them their own desire;
EliYah - Psalms 78:30 - They were not estranged from their lust. But while their meat was yet in their mouths,
EliYah - Psalms 78:31 - The wrath of Elohim came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, and smote down the chosen men of Israel.
EliYah - Psalms 78:32 - For all this they sinned still, and believed not for his wondrous works.
EliYah - Psalms 78:33 - Therefore their days did he consume in vanity, and their years in trouble.
EliYah - Psalms 78:34 - When he slew them, then they sought him: and they returned and inquired early after El.
EliYah - Psalms 78:35 - And they remembered that Elohim was their rock, and El Elyon their redeemer.
EliYah - Psalms 78:36 - Nevertheless they did flatter him with their mouth, and they lied unto him with their tongues.
EliYah - Psalms 78:37 - For their heart was not right with him, neither were they stedfast in his covenant.
EliYah - What a powerful scripture!
EliYah - Oh yes...Yahweh is great..HalleluYah...We all know HE is worthy of all praise..
EliYah - These sayings are sure to get claps from many a congregation..
EliYah - But it is all just flattering lies unless we have a steadfast heart to truly and faithfully serve Him!!
EliYah - Yahshua knew what was in man:
EliYah - John 2:23 - Now when he was in Jerusalem at the passover, in the feast day, many believed in his name, when they saw the miracles which he did.
EliYah - John 2:24 - But YAHSHUA did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men,
EliYah - John 2:25 - And needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man.
EliYah - Here is an example of deceitful men attempting to flatter Yahshua to trap him in his words:
EliYah - Mark 12:12 - And they sought to lay hold on him, but feared the people: for they knew that he had spoken the parable against them: and they left him, and went their way.
EliYah - Mark 12:13 - And they send unto him certain of the Pharisees and of the Herodians, to catch him in his words.
EliYah - Mark 12:14 - And when they were come, they say unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art true, and carest for no man: for thou regardest not the person of men, but teachest the way of Elohim in truth: Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?
EliYah - See their flattering hypocrisy?
EliYah - Mark 12:15 - Shall we give, or shall we not give? But he, knowing their hypocrisy, said unto them, Why tempt ye me? bring me a penny, that I may see it.
EliYah - Mark 12:16 - And they brought it. And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? And they said unto him, Caesar's.
EliYah - Mark 12:17 - And YAHSHUA answering said unto them, Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to YAHWEH the things that are YAHWEH's. And they marvelled at him.
EliYah - The flattering men failed miserably because of Yahshua's wisdom and insight from Yahweh.
EliYah - We too, should note His example and be on guard for those who flatter.
EliYah - Yahshua said that we should be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.
EliYah - We can begin to see that flattering persons often have an evil motive:
EliYah - Proverbs 2:10 - When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;
EliYah - Proverbs 2:11 - Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:
EliYah - Proverbs 2:12 - To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things;
EliYah - Proverbs 2:13 - Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;
EliYah - Proverbs 2:14 - Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked;
EliYah - Proverbs 2:15 - Whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths:
EliYah - Proverbs 2:16 - To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words;
EliYah - Proverbs 2:17 - Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her Elohim.
EliYah - Now here is a warning not to associate with a flatterer and talebearer:
EliYah - Proverbs 20:19 - He that goeth about as a talebearer revealeth secrets: therefore meddle not with him that flattereth with his lips.
EliYah - Surely this person will tell the world of your secrets while they flatter you into revealing them!
EliYah - Here is an example of someone who flatters themselves after he finds out his sin:
EliYah - Psalms 36:1 - The transgression of the wicked saith within my heart, that there is no fear of Elohim before his eyes.
EliYah - Psalms 36:2 - For he flattereth himself in his own eyes, until his iniquity be found to be hateful.
EliYah - Psalms 36:3 - The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit: he hath left off to be wise, and to do good.
EliYah - Psalms 36:4 - He deviseth mischief upon his bed; he setteth himself in a way that is not good; he abhorreth not evil.
EliYah - The disciples did not use flattery as a means of gaining believers:
EliYah - 1Thessalonians 2:1 - For yourselves, brethren, know our entrance in unto you, that it was not in vain:
EliYah - 1Thessalonians 2:2 - But even after that we had suffered before, and were shamefully entreated, as ye know, at Philippi, we were bold in our Elohim to speak unto you the gospel of YAHWEH with much contention.
EliYah - 1Thessalonians 2:3 - For our exhortation was not of deceit, nor of uncleanness, nor in guile:
EliYah - 1Thessalonians 2:4 - But as we were allowed of YAHWEH to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but YAHWEH, which trieth our hearts.
EliYah - 1Thessalonians 2:5 - For neither at any time used we flattering words, as ye know, nor a cloke of covetousness; YAHWEH is witness:
EliYah - 1Thessalonians 2:6 - Nor of men sought we glory, neither of you, nor yet of others, when we might have been burdensome, as the apostles of the Messiah.
EliYah - 1Thessalonians 2:7 - But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherisheth her children:
EliYah - 1Thessalonians 2:8 - So being affectionately desirous of you, we were willing to have imparted unto you, not the gospel of YAHWEH only, but also our own souls, because ye were dear unto us.
EliYah - So there is a difference between flattering someone and being gentle.
EliYah - Take heed that we do not flatter ourselves...
EliYah - Proverbs 27:2 - Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.
EliYah - But what should be our response when we are flattered by others?
EliYah - Acts 12:20 - And Herod was highly displeased with them of Tyre and Sidon: but they came with one accord to him, and, having made Blastus the king's chamberlain their friend, desired peace; because their country was nourished by the king's country.
EliYah - Acts 12:21 - And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them.
EliYah - Acts 12:22 - And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a mighty one, and not of a man.
EliYah - Acts 12:23 - And immediately the angel of YAHWEH smote him, because he gave not YAHWEH the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the spirit.
EliYah - Surely, our response should be to give praise and honor to Yahweh!!
EliYah - As Yahshua said:
EliYah - Acts 17:6 - And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also;
EliYah - oops
EliYah - Luke 17:6 - And YAHSHUA said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you.
EliYah - Luke 17:7 - But which of you, having a servant plowing or feeding cattle, will say unto him by and by, when he is come from the field, Go and sit down to meat?
EliYah - Luke 17:8 - And will not rather say unto him, Make ready wherewith I may sup, and gird thyself, and serve me, till I have eaten and drunken; and afterward thou shalt eat and drink?
EliYah - Luke 17:9 - Doth he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I trow not.
EliYah - Luke 17:10 - So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do.
EliYah - It is only our duty to honor Yahweh and keep His commandments.
EliYah - Let our reward be from Yahweh and not from men.
EliYah - Give Yahweh ALL the praise.. It is by His words that we exist!
EliYah - Revelations 4:11 - "You are worthy, O YAHWEH, to receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, and by Your will they exist and were created."
EliYah - May Yahweh bless you all!

Berean - 6601. pathah, paw-thaw'; a prim. root; to open, i.e. be (causat. make) roomy; usually fig. (in a mental or moral sense) to be (causat. make) simple or (in a sinister way) delude:--allure, deceive, enlarge, entice, flatter, persuade, silly (one).
EliYah - John 1:48 - Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? YAHSHUA answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee.
