BroDavid Greetings to all my brethren around the world in Yahshua. We gather this erev shabbat (sabbath evening) to meditate on what our Moshiach (Messiah) has called THE GREAT COMMANDMENT, putting it above all others.
BroDavid +mat 22:36-38
`Watchman Matthew 22:36 - Rabbi, which is the great commandment in the law?
`Watchman Matthew 22:37 - YAHSHUA said unto him, Thou shalt love YAHWEH thy Elohim with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
`Watchman Matthew 22:38 - This is the first and great commandment.
BroDavid +matt 22:39-40
`Watchman Matthew 22:39 - And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
`Watchman Matthew 22:40 - On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
BroDavid In like manner, we are told by Mark: BroDavid +mark 12:28-29 `Watchman Mark 12:28 - And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all? `Watchman Mark 12:29 - And YAHSHUA answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; YAHWEH is our Elohim, YAHWEH is one: BroDavid +mark 12:30-31 `Watchman Mark 12:30 - And thou shalt love YAHWEH thy Elohim with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. `Watchman Mark 12:31 - And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these. BroDavid Now, what is the source of this great teaching from our dear Master? Had He a quick bolt of new revelation? Or was this something taught to all of Yahweh's people at the time? Indeed, we know the answer to this, for the context is that of the great Jewish prayer, The "Sh'ma": SH'MA YISRAEL, YAHWEH ELOHEINU, YAHWEH, ECHAD. In the modern vernacular, this is to say: BroDavid LISTEN TO ME!! O Israel, My people . I am One. BroDavid +deut 6:1-2 `Watchman Deuteronomy 6:1 - Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which YAHWEH your Elohim commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it: `Watchman Deuteronomy 6:2 - That thou mightest fear YAHWEH thy Elohim, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged. BroDavid Notice, He is talking to us, our children...and He is even commanding us to teach these things to our grandchildren! How can we have any control over that? Well, we shall see, as we read the word this eve. BroDavid The Sh'ma.... BroDavid +deut 6:3-5 `Watchman Deuteronomy 6:3 - Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as YAHWEH Elohim of thy fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey. `Watchman Deuteronomy 6:4 - Hear, O Israel: YAHWEH is our Elohim, YAHWEH is one: `Watchman Deuteronomy 6:5 - And thou shalt love YAHWEH thy Elohim with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. BroDavid +deut 6:6-7 BroDavid So, we are instructed not only to learn and keep commandments, but also to teach them to our children whom Yahweh Almighty hath given us, every minute of every day...wake them with singing of hymns and spiritual songs.."when thou risest up", sing them softly to sleep with songs and stories of Yahweh and Yahshua ("when thou liest down"), and throughout the period of the day at home.("when thou sittest in thine house"). BroDavid How many of us have our dear little ones sequestered in a seperate room from us, while they stare mesmerized by a television, video game, or their friends? This should not be so, according to the Word and the Commandment! BroDavid The Title of this study is "Train up a Child" `Watchman Deuteronomy 6:6 - And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: `Watchman Deuteronomy 6:7 - And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. BroDavid TRAIN UP A CHILD!! BroDavid What is the meaning of this in our "enlightened" modern age, where man knoweth better then Yahweh? To whom do we say, "I shall not follow your rules, o mighty society and evil world. My Elohim hath instructed me different!"? BroDavid +psalms 119:115 `Watchman Psalms 119:115 - Depart from me, ye evildoers: for I will keep the commandments of my Elohim. BroDavid To begin, I will address the objections, in order to dispose of them before beginning, so that Yahweh may have our full attention this eve :-) BroDavid First, "Bro. David has never raised children. I shall use this as a reason not to hearken unto the Holy Scripture he quotes". BroDavid For that matter, we had better dispose of the writings of our beloved brother, Paul, for he hath said he was unmarried. BroDavid +1cor 7:7-8 `Watchman 1Corinthians 7:7 - For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of YAHWEH, one after this manner, and another after that. `Watchman 1Corinthians 7:8 - I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I. BroDavid And isn't it amazing that, somehow, Yahweh had the ability to write just about every verse in the Greek Testament regarding family relations by his hand? BroDavid We shall see, that although he referred to himself humbly as "the least of them"... BroDavid +1cor 15:9 `Watchman 1Corinthians 15:9 - For I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the assembly of Elohim. BroDavid ...he often had to boast...not in himself, but to reaffirm his standing as a true teacher, for many in his day did not believe him to be authentic. BroDavid Even to this day, some hold his veracity in question. When I teach the whole counsel of Yahweh, and some are offended, it will be the same. So, I begin by saying, that if Yahweh so please, He can speak through me. BroDavid +phil 3:4-6 BroDavid My experience, or lack of it in a particular field does not hinder Yahweh's Hand in speaking through me as merely a vessel. In fact, if I had experience, I could boast in it. But which glorifies His Name more? My experience, or the lack of `Watchman Philippians 3:4 - Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more: `Watchman Philippians 3:5 - Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee; `Watchman Philippians 3:6 - Concerning zeal, persecuting the assembly; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless. BroDavid experience, which is a clear indicator that He can do all things through the weakest of us? BroDavid +2cor 12:10 `Watchman 2Corinthians 12:10 - Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for the Messiah's sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong.
BroDavid Let us being with a question: BroDavid To which of our children will we have the backbone to say, "I'm sorry. You may NOT play with your friend "Johnny" because he will be your teacher, and that, not of good things!"? BroDavid Yet, the Scripture clearly tells us that we will be held accontable for those little ones He has entrusted us with! BroDavid In fact, every secret thing which none of our friends, neighbors, and brethren know about will be judged. BroDavid +eccl 12:14 `Watchman Ecclesiastes 12:14 - For Elohim shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil. . BroDavid Look...how can we teach them the things of Yahweh, then unleash their unrighreous peers on them? Peers who, will not have the maturity that we as parents do, to teach them the things of Yahweh? BroDavid Please be not deceived! They will be influenced heavily by those they keep company with: BroDavid +1cor 15:33 `Watchman 1Corinthians 15:33 - Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners. BroDavid How about this stern warning, from the Creator of heaven and earth? BroDavid +prov 13:20 `Watchman Proverbs 13:20 - He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed. BroDavid Notice, it doesn't say a "fool" will be destroyed? It says "the companion of fools". Please, my brethren, let not thine children be companions of fools! For it you permit it, they shall be destroyed. BroDavid But, you say, "Can't they choose their own friends?" BroDavid NO!! BroDavid Not according to this. Our Father in heaven decideth whom our friends shall be. He tells us clearly BroDavid Well, we are treading on dangerous ground with this teaching. How many in the room with me now, think that I am quite extreme? (show of hands?) And how many of those of you have been called "extreme" by those critical of OUR beliefs? BroDavid Let me say, in all love and truthfulness, that if we decide not to keep our children from evil, they will be destroyed. But, you say, "we have to live in the world , you know?". Yes, I know. But, what our Yahshua said to the Father about us was that SINCE we had to live in the world, that He should KEEP US FROM EVIL! BroDavid +john 17:15 `Watchman John 17:15 - I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. BroDavid +Prov 22:6 `Watchman Proverbs 22:6 - Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. BroDavid The word "train up" in Hebrew is "chanak", WHICH meaneth DEDICATE, as in Channukah, the feast of DEDICATION. So, we are to DEDICATE our children to Almighty Yahweh. This is not a one time "laying on of hands", prayer, or baptism, but a continual training up in the word. BroDavid So, as such, we are to wholly and holy dedicate our children to Yahweh. They are to have no part in the world's themes, t-shirt slogan foolishness, neither its shallow values. BroDavid +2cor 6:14-16 `Watchman 2Corinthians 6:14 - Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness? `Watchman 2Corinthians 6:15 - Or what harmony has the Messiah with Belial, or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever? `Watchman 2Corinthians 6:16 - Or what agreement has the temple of YAHWEH with idols? For we are the temple of the living Elohim; just as YAHWEH said, "I will dwell in them and walk among them; and I will be their Elohim, and they shall be My people. BroDavid +2cor 6:17-18 BroDavid Now, the Greek word for be ye SEPERATE is aphorizo, which meanteh "TO LIMIT", "TO DRAW CLEAR BOUNDARIES", and "TO DISTINGUISH WHAT IS DISREPUTABLE" BroDavid How then, can we neglect such a seperation, those of us who call ourselves "seperate", by permitting the world to inoculate their values in our precious children??? `Watchman 2Corinthians 6:17 - "Therefore, come out from their midst and be separate," says YAHWEH. "And do not touch what is unclean; and I will welcome you. `Watchman 2Corinthians 6:18 - "And I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me," says YAHWEH Almighty. BroDavid How can we allow the children of darnkess to associate with ours, whom Yahweh calleth "children of light"? BroDavid THe next objection we encounter is, "aren't we told not to judge"? BroDavid +mat 7:1 `Watchman Matthew 7:1 - Judge not, that ye be not judged. BroDavid Actually, this word meaneth more like "judge in order to condemn" BroDavid Compare it with this? BroDavid +john 7:24 `Watchman John 7:24 - Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment. BroDavid +luke 7:43 `Watchman Luke 7:43 - Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged. BroDavid So you see, we are told we MUST judge! The problem Yahshua had with them is their judgement was not right... BroDavid not of a pure heart. Look some more at the word: BroDavid +luke 12:57 `Watchman Luke 12:57 - Yea, and why even of yourselves judge ye not what is right? BroDavid In fact, you are even to judge what we as teachers say. BroDavid +1cor 10:15 `Watchman 1Corinthians 10:15 - I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say. BroDavid and finally, BroDavid +1cor 2:15 `Watchman 1Corinthians 2:15 - But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. BroDavid This is all in line with "drawing clear boundaries". No one needs clear boundaried drawn for them, as much as our children. BroDavid Now, as to the training up of our children? How do we filter out what the world has to offer them? HOw can we keep them pure? BroDavid +james 1:27 `Watchman James 1:27 - Pure and undefiled religion before YAHWEH the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world. BroDavid Simply put, we must first keep them unspotted from the world. There is to be no place for "being their own person", as the world's teaching say to us, daily. BroDavid For, did Yahshua "be His own person?" BroDavid +phil 2:5-7 `Watchman Philippians 2:5 - Let this mind be in you, which was also in the Messiah YAHSHUA: `Watchman Philippians 2:6 - Who, being in the form of Elohim, thought it not robbery to be equal with YAHWEH: `Watchman Philippians 2:7 - But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: BroDavid No, he emptied Himself, putting on what Yahweh, His Father, told Him to BroDavid and we, must, also, demand of our children that they begin to do this, that they have at least a taste of what it is to deny onesself. BroDavid For without this, they cannot be disciples BroDavid +mat 16:24 `Watchman Matthew 16:24 - Then said YAHSHUA unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. BroDavid Having learned this in all aspects of life, when they grow old, they can at least make an educated decision to follow Yahshua. If they have never had to struggle with denying their own desires and urges, how then can they ever choose when they grow old? BroDavid That is what is meant by the saying that when they are old they will not depart from it. BroDavid Who, tasting the riches of the world to come, would choose otherwise? Nay, it is often, too often those who, having brought up by faithful, yet not understanding what the will of Yahweh was in the matter of their children. BroDavid Recall the verse we started this with: BroDavid +deut 6:2 `Watchman Deuteronomy 6:2 - That thou mightest fear YAHWEH thy Elohim, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged. BroDavid Now, how can we affect what our son's son will do? BroDavid Not at all, if we have lost the heart and devotion of our son. But, if we continue in the things written here, not only us, but to engrave them upon our sons' hearts every hour of every day, we shall teach them how to be parents after Yahweh's heart BroDavid What this will, in effect do, is prepare them to raise their children in like manner, ...hopefully even do better then we did! BroDavid This is how we can teach all the things in the sh'ma to our sons' sons. And, Yahweh promises to bless this effort ,... BroDavid ...IF.... BroDavid ..if we will give Him all our heart, and deliver our children's hearts to Him in due season. BroDavid We need to retain our children's hearts in order to do this. We must keep them in the Word all of the day. This is most difficult in the modern world, yet, we are expected to do so. Notice. BroDavid +eph 6:4 `Watchman Ephesians 6:4 - And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of YAHWEH. BroDavid some criticize such austere teaching as the previous as exactly that! "frustrating" them. But, a look at the Greek will reveal that the word for "training" actually meaneth "chastisement" BroDavid So, this is saying that the way we can bring them up in the training of Yahweh is to keep them on target with strong attention to their every activity. BroDavid This is like unto what Yahweh does unto us! BroDavid +heb 12:5-7 `Watchman Hebrews 12:5 - And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: "My son, do not despise the chastening of YAHWEH, nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him; `Watchman Hebrews 12:6 - For whom YAHWEH loves He chastens, and scourges every son whom He receives." `Watchman Hebrews 12:7 - If you endure chastening, YAHWEH deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? BroDavid +heb 12:8 `Watchman Hebrews 12:8 - But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons. BroDavid If Yahweh raises His sons this way, then so should we! BroDavid Rather than permitting their wills to reign in the home, it is wise that we rather have household rules which reflect Yahweh's, and to demand that they be kept. BroDavid Another way the word "train up" in hebrew (chanak) is translated is "narrow" BroDavid So, we are to "narrow" them. But , the world tells us to give them a "broad" "liberal" education! O, what shall we do? BroDavid To whom shall we hearken? BroDavid The truth, as revealed in the Holy Scripture, is that we, as parents, have an awesome responsibility! Nnt at all to be taken lightly, or to be swayed by those not "in the know" of Yahweh's dear heart. BroDavid +prov 23:22 `Watchman Proverbs 23:22 - Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old. BroDavid Do you get the sense that this order- this Yahweh-created order that parents guide their children does not end when they are 18? BroDavid Now, I am aware that the world tells us this...and quite loudly!!! But, again, to whom do we hearken unto? BroDavid +acts 5:29 `Watchman Acts 5:29 - Then Kepha and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey Elohim rather than men. BroDavid +prov 13:1 `Watchman Proverbs 13:1 - A wise son heareth his father's instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke. BroDavid HOW, then, do we keep our children's hearts, as we go through this life in this world?
BroDavid How do we MAKE our children to hear our instruction? (after all, we want to be like Yahweh, don't we?) BroDavid +psa 23:1-2 `Watchman Psalms 23:1 - YAHWEH is my shepherd; I shall not want. `Watchman Psalms 23:2 - He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. BroDavid Notice...He MAKETH us to lie down...were it no so, we would not choose it this way, i am sure. BroDavid So, how can we follow such a parental example? Yahweh is indeed a "tough act to follow" :) BroDavid First, by recognizing that it is the PARENT who is responsible for the training of the children. Scripture nowhere says it any other way. BroDavid Not the school teacher, not the friend next door...not even the aunt or grandparent. BroDavid Second, by planting the seed in the mind of our little ones from day 1 what is really important. And not permitting anyone else to speak louder with a different message. BroDavid Many prepare their children...and work hard at it, and are not to be mocked.... for living in the world, with higher education, and such. BroDavid But , I ask all of us, for WHICH world are we preparing them for? BroDavid +prov 16:8 `Watchman Proverbs 16:8 - Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues without right. BroDavid Now, let us go forth , armed with this vision in our hearts. Built up with this desire to instill this most holy faith. BroDavid in our young ones which Yahweh hast put into our hands for a time, and given us full clear instructions to bring them toward Himself BroDavid Let us watch WHO their counselors are, and make sure the counsel is wise. Let us not confuse them by teaching them on shabbat (sabbath) that Yahweh reigneth, then letting them wander throughout Satan's world the other six days BroDavid +heb 10:23 `Watchman Hebrews 10:23 - Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. BroDavid He IS faithful! Think not for a moment that Yahweh will not aid and assist us in this most difficult endeavor. The world today is a minefield! It is just not made for the believer. BroDavid Moreover, it is stacked against those who would bring their children up in the murture and admonition of Yahweh. But, we must, as with all things, press against the tide, in order to please Yahweh. And the stakes are even higher than just going to the right fellowship, or living in the right neighborhood...those things we hold in such high esteem. And we ought! But, let us not leave the other undone. For the souls of our dear precious children a BroDavid +heb 11:10 `Watchman Hebrews 11:10 - for he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is YAHWEH. BroDavid This should be the mark we strive for, FAR above better grades and a nice position on the HS football team! BroDavid Let us transmit this to them. Let us share the JOY!!! And GLORY!!!! which OUR Father has shared with us! Let us give them, as it has been given to us by Yahweh! BroDavid Let us sacrifice looking good to those around us, in order that we LIVE good, and keep our children and their training in Yahweh second only to Yahweh Himself, O Glory be to Yahweh!!! Let all the people say.....
