Christos is a title refering to physical touching to place oil on someone or "something"

Mashai-ah was refered to annointing as to appoint.

One does not replace the other because the title christ was used for perveted sex rituals.

Mashai-ah was not.

Actually the word "Mashiach" comes from the Egyptian root massa "to rub". By extension implying, to rub melted fats or oils thus the mashiach is one who is rubbed with oil. This could be a ritual annointing, or the common one performed in massage palours.
