Shalom to all,

my firstborn son was born earlier this week on dec. 25th.

Ezra Nolan is his name, and i am so happy and proud!

he came 2 weeks early - 6 ibs 7.5 oz - but is healthy and so beautiful!

my bride's water broke before any contractions ever began, and only THEN did labor start. she went for 20 hours, only dilating to a 6 before the doc finally decided on doing a c-section. everything went well, and she is healing up slowly and so far without any problems.

it was an awesome experience to see him enter the world, and touch and talk to him right after. his little eyes have been so alert since birth, and his tiny arms and legs are strong for his size. he reached up and grabbed hold of my beard and just listened to me cry and love on him - such a lifechanging experience! exhausted but giddy is a good description of my bride and i at the moment - but we're home now, so that helps!

my hands will be tied up with tending to the bride and the baby's needs for the next couple of weeks, but i just wanted to stop in here at the first chance i got and share the good news with my brothers and sisters. thanks to all who have prayed over the months for her pregnancy - the Father guided her condition and the baby's also so that they stayed healthy through the long labor. plus, since he was born after sundown on the 25th, the mohel i chose will be free to perform the cicumcision on the 2nd of jan!

praise Yah for His goodness and for bringing life into the world!

May YHWH Bless your beautiful family.

Luk 18:16 Yeshua summoned them, saying, "Allow the little children to come to me, and don't hinder them, for the Kingdom of Elohim belongs to such as these.

Shalom to all,

thanks to all the brothers and sisters for all the blessings and kind words!

we are still thanking the Father for His goodness and love toward us in giving us a little one.

my bride has had extreme difficulty in producing milk of any measure for our boy, and he lost right at a pound within the first 5 days and became very dehydrated. so we've gone on a 2-hour feeding cycle that includes mom's milk, reluctant formula suppliments, and pumping. that being the case, we all three are extremely exhausted from this system, but he has gained 10 more ounces since the hospital visit at the first of the week! he went from sleeping and screaming to wide-eyed and smiling. amazing what getting something to eat will do for you! thanks be to the Father for family and friends who have been helping out in so many ways! today was his 8th day and he entered the covenant of milah - "circumcision," which he was not at all happy about! someday he'll really understand, but i got to read over Genesis 17 and Romans 4 with him to explain what i was about to subject him to.

so if you feel led, please say a prayer that he heals quickly and especially tht his momma's milk comes in as soon as possible. we're trying some herbs to help that, too, but as of yet have not seen any results.

Hello Burning One,
Does your wife take brewer's yeast? there is one put out by Lewis Laboratories that tastes pretty good (for brewer's yeast). It has the much needed B-vitamins. I used to mixed it with a good-tasting plain yogurt (Brown Cow has a very good whole milk yogurt). If she can't handle that, just make sure she is eating plenty of calories. Stress can decrease milk supply.....wow, how much more stressful can life be than being a new mommy!!.....Do you guys have a good breast pump? My daughter had a little trouble with milk production earlier this year (2007) with her first child. I just encouraged her to keep trying, don't give up, use the breast pump often. It took a few weeks, particularly with the breast which did not seem to want to produce the milk. Trying nursing positions, i.e., football hold, etc., is helpful for baby to latch on. Make sure she is drinking lots of fluid and getting plenty of rest. I am sending up prayers for you all.....keep us posted when you can on how things are going....love, sis becky

Shalom Becky,

my bride hasn't taken brewer's yeast. we'll look into it, though. she is on fenugreek right now and is planning on starting blessed thistle hopefully tomorrow if i can get some from the health food store. the lactation consultants recommended the fenugreek and the slight looking-into of it i've done on the web seems to indicate it is helpful.

we've begun to see an increase, though just a little, so far.

yes we have a pump - Avent Isis, but the lact. consultant recommended renting a Medela from the hospital to get the flow really going. so she's doing that at the moment.

he's latching on really well, so far, and i'm stuffing water down her as much as i can!

thanks for the advice and especially for the prayers. i'll keep the situation updated.

Hey B1,

Considering this is your first child and all... I just want to give you and the Mrs. the heads up. Sometimes it takes a while for a woman to produce milk after her first child, especially if she feels stressed out. It seemed like it too forever for me (about 2 weeks). And I was just beyond myself being upset because I so wanted to feed him. And we had to end up doing what you and the Mrs. did with the supplement feedings. I mean because lets face it.. a child cannot live 2 weeks with no food.

Once I calmed down... the milk came in. And came in good too.. the more she puts him at the breast..the more milk she will produce. It just takes a little longer for some women is all. But one of the keys is to try and calm down as much as possible..which is easier said than done. Because what mother interested in breast feeding that milk isn't coming in well wouldn't be concerned! But try to remain calm and eat plenty of good calories (which is often difficult) and try warm compresses as well.

Oh and Becky gave you some great advice. I am a witness..the football position works great! My hubby had even got me one of those half moon pillows for babies and that helped as well.. our son's little body fit into it perfectly.

Shalom, dear brother and sister,

You are doing all the right things. Yes, the medela is the best; did they loan you one? If you need one, maybe we can all pitch in here and try to buy you one. Let me know.

They sure are a worry, those little ones! If you see an improvement, even a small one, that is good. Give yourself at least a month after his birth to evaluate things concerning your bride's milk production and baby getting the hang of nursing. Babies always lose weight within the first week of birth, a very normal thing and actually more unusual if they don't lose weight.

Please, do not hesitate to ask if you need anything at all and let me know about the pump. I do ebay and got my daughter a pump for a really good price. I just read this verse this morning:

Rom 12:13 ...imparting to the needs of the set-apart ones, pursuing kindness towards strangers.

We are here for you both..make sure to get some fresh air and sunshine....love, sis becky

P.S.....Missy posted some great advice. The pillow she mentioned is called a Boppy pillow and I have seen them at Target.

Shalom Missy and Becky,

thanks for all your suggestions and willingness to help. i'm open to any sound advice and counsel.

as for calming her down and getting her to relax, we've been attempting to do that - the warm compresses and/or showers before nursing have apparently been of some good, and having the skin-to-skin contact with the baby as much as possible helps, as well.

i made a last minute dash to the healthfood store and spoke with a very helpful woman there about increasing milk production - she has a 4 year old daughter who is still nursing in the evenings!! she really set my mind at ease, telling me she has only ever been able to nurse from one side - that her milk never came in on the other, and she successfully nursed exclusively for over a year before introducing solid food! she advised fenugreek, which we're doing, as well as blessed thistle and brewer's yeast - both of which i purchased and we've begun tonite. the brewer's yeast was not a pleasant experience for her. we'll try again in the morning with some yogurt. the health food lady also advised lavender oil for calming effects, which we have and will put to use - i love that oil and am surprised i didn't think of it myself! d'oh! and a wonderful woman in our congregation who is studying to be a midwife brought over some red raspberry leaves for us to make a tea with, which is supposed to be very stimulating for milk production - maybe we'll attempt that tomorrow.

we do have a boppy pillow thing, and it helps tremendously in the feeding times - i even use it myself when feeding him. as for the pump, we're renting it from the hospital, and the price is very cheap, so we're going to just stick it out for now. but if it looks like it might be a long haul to get the milk flowing, i might just ask for some ebay detective help!

i'm hoping to make a trip into the big city (Fort Worth) after the sabbath to buy some Mother's Milk Plus capsules and tea that the lactation consultant and the healthfood people recommended.

so we're doing everything we know. any more ideas from anyone who's been there are certainly welcome. again, i appreciate the care and concern shown here for my family. praise Yah for a body who truly loves and cares for the parts! may His blessings continue to flow and continue to be perceived by His people!
